Re: New Owner - Bulb Part #'s

Matt, Your anchor light fixture is likely to be an Aqua Signal like this one, but check using a camera: https://www.defender.com/product3.jsp?path=-1%7C65136%7C2312550%7C2312552&id=827318 If you have a decent telephoto lens you can generally tell what it is from blowing up a camera shot (even a ...

Free 36 solar panels

Folks, I just replaced my 3 solar panels on the 2001 Capella 36 with slightly larger new ones. I have the old Siemens 50 watt panels in the garage. A lot of the 36s had the hard bimini especially made for these panels, so I thought someone might want some spares. They're in SW Florida right now, and...

Re: PDQ 36 Capsize

Wow. That's quite a story. The microbursts here on the Great Lakes are no joke. I once owned a Nacra 20 foot that was kept chained on a beach in Chicago when not sailed. A microburst lifted that boat off the beach (with no sails on it at all, the trampoline acted as a sail), and threw the boat 100 y...

Re: Corroded holding tank access plate

Hey Marc, This obviously looks like classic galvanic corrosion. Neither of my 36s has a metal holding tank. They're both some type of plastic. What hull number is yours, BTW? The bolt question is difficult. They either have washers and nuts on the back and maybe the plate was welded into place later...

Re: window leak

Earl, Are you thinking about actually having new windows fabricated? There's an acrylic and plastics shop here in Chicago that says that if I get them the window, they can reproduce it. I have a couple cracked windows that I was thinking about taking to them. While I'm waiting, I'd have to do the &q...

Re: Electric gremlin

Tim, You may not be getting 120v from shore, even if other boats around you are. The shore power connections here corrode and become big resistors. There's real danger there, as you can start a fire and there's no circuit breaker to do anything about it. Look at the boat-side shore connection(s) (no...

Re: Remove hot water heater

So your heater is in one of the 2 aft cockpit lazarettes? Strange, mine is under the navigation bench inside.

It'd be really nice not to cut that fiberglass. Does Force 10 have a manual with an exploded diagram? Maybe a way to get it apart.

Re: Windlass and Anchor Chain

Hey Tim,
You’ve probably checked this, but that sounds a lot like a bad electrical contact. Check all wire connections, and if you have a multimeter check that you’re getting voltage to the windlass.

Re: Replacing original solar panels

Hey guys, Here's a pic of the 2001 PDQ 36 Bimini with solar. I realize this is the 32 forum and maybe I should put it on the 36 forum, but we seem to be talking about the same solar panels here, so I guess I'll post it here. As you can see, there are 3 original Siemens panels that we've been discuss...

Re: Replacing original solar panels

Has anyone figured out a. solution to the size matching problem that iriemon mentions? On the later PDQ 36s, there are 3 "wells" on the Bimini top where the 3 panels drop in, and there is almost no room for error. The new ones really couldn't be much larger (maybe 1/2" on each side at...

Re: Procedure for rudder dropping

OK, everyone. I hauled the boat and dropped both rudders while the boat was in the crane sling... Here's the procedure and a couple pics: 1. There should be a bolt (and nut) through the rudder near the very top of the post (maybe 2 inches down from the top ) for the emergency tiller. Temporarily rem...

Procedure for rudder dropping

Hey y'all. I'm going to drop the rudders when I haul next week, so I can inspect the bearings and fiberglass. I have managed to loosen and re-tighten the 4 bolts on each side that hold the quadrant parts to the rudder. That wasn't too bad, since the boat has only seen fresh water. Simon Slater menti...

What's you comms situation? Sat phone? SSB? VHF?
As Terry says, Chris Parker is the answer in almost every case, but the method of access is different for different situations.

Re: What are these D-rings on the bow?

I only have one ring on each side, but I've used them to make a bridle to hold the tack of a code zero which goes in front of the jib. I don't use it much anymore, though, because I'm old and lazy.
