Re: Replacement Engine(s)

catalacMarc, I am replacing one engine with a brand new 9.9 from Yamaha. I previously replaced both engines in 2008 and have since put 850 hours on them. The starboard engine, however, broke a wrist pin and wreaked havoc on all manner of internal drive train parts, hence the need to switch only one ...

Re: Replacement Engine(s)

Thanks lauraJ but I scored our new engine a free ride to the Bahamas in exchange for helping my friend crew his 60 motor yacht down island. I'm sure it will be a horrible sacrifice (kidding), but somehow I suspect I'll survive the trip.

Regards,
Tom

Re: Replacement Engine(s)

Thanks for the reply Sam. I called around and their prices were pretty much middle of the pack as I got quoted $2900 to $3600 from 5 different vendors. The cheapest was Boats.net but they are a bunch of clowns and won't ship you an engine unless it's to a Yamaha dealer and installed by them. What a ...

Replacement Engine(s)

All, I am heading back to the states next week to among other things, secure a replacement 9.9 Yamaha for Dream Catcher. I've read thru the relevant posts here and I understand I can still get them from my guy down in Stuart, FL at Lindsey Marine, but is there anything I am missing? Anyone have anyt...

Mast Weight

Hey All,

Ballpark, does anyone have an idea on the weight of the standard mast on the 36? Thanks.

Re: New member questions

Martyn, There were two options for mast height, 47' and I believe 51'. Ours it the 47 footer. I've never seen a PDQ36 that had a self tacking head sail, but most of the 32's came that way. Standing room in the hulls is 7' 6" on our boat and 6''3" just inside the main salon. As for defects....

3rd Stateroom

Hi all, We are looking at re-purposing our third stateroom (aft port) and I was wondering if anyone knew how the built in fiberglass "L" shaped bed/storage insert comes out. It has screws on the leading edges, but it looks like maybe it's glued or glassed on the hull contact areas. Any com...

We've used this little Sony SSB Reciever for 12 years to listen to Chris Parker with great success: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-ICF-SW7600GR-Shortwave-Receiver-Reception/dp/B00006IS4X If you're just listening in to the regional (ie Bahamas Central, Bahamas South, etc) broadcasts, it's free and once y...

Re: Yamaha 9.9 Problem

Thanks for your input Dan, I changed the oil and disabled the pressure sensor, but to no avail. Next I swapped out the fuel pump from known good engine #2; still not right. I then bypassed the entire fuel system on the bad engine going with a gravity feed/fuel line hand pump direct to the carb; same...

Yamaha 9.9 Problem

All, Greetings from your friends in the Bahamas. Dream Catcher is having a problem with one of her (2007) 9.9 Yamahas and I wondered if someone might have any suggestions. The engine will start up and idle, even accelerate in neutral, but under any kind of load (in gear), it starts running rough and...

Re: Bringing our dog to the Bahamas

Kassf, I do volunteer work with the vet in Georgetown (Great Exuma) and the dog question comes up quite frequently. Here https://www.facebook.com/pages/Exuma-Animal-Hospital/496319487056756 is the link to the vets page on Facebook along with a couple of phone numbers you can call to get the latest i...

Re: Dinghy length

We have an Apex 9.5, rigid inflatable and it fits with a Yam 2 - 15 with no problems. We tried a 10.5, but it wouldn't fit. Good luck with the boat.

Sticky Shifter

All, We had recently been having trouble with the starboard engine when shifting into and out of gear. I had assumed that the shifter cable was to blame as they seem to fail every two to three years due to corrosion. I swapped out the cable, but the problem was no better. I was worried the problem w...
