Re: Dingy motor hoist
My 15hp Honda weighed about as much as my AB Rib. I had heavy duty web straps with loops on each end made to lift motor. (Harnesses advertised for outboards are flimsy junk IMHO.) Used motor's web straps to lift dinghy aft. When needed, I used davit hdwe to take motor off Rib.

Lavac toilette
Hello John, The present std marine toilettes seem to baffle most visitors and my wife. And, the distance from head to holding tank on the Capella is considerable. Even I don't know how much water to pump through in order to clear the line. So, if the lavac moved sufficient water and instructions to ...

lavac head
I posted this question in the Capella site, but this may be a better location. What experience has anyone had with the lavac head. Did PDQ offer it at one time? Did you retrofit and if so, what were the challenges.

Lavac conversion
Both my brothers have boats with lavac heads. They praise them relentlessly. I'd be interested in hearing from those of you who have lavacs, especially if you did a conversion.

anchors
Kenny, Anchors are like womens jeans, they have to fit the bottom. If you are cruising in an area with predictable bottom characteristics, choose an anchor with the best reputation for holding in that material. Then have an "all purpose" for excursions beyond. Happy Thanksgiving, Alex Keha...

Having just bought some tell-tails, I would appreciate advice from our more performance oriented members as to where to place them. Regards, Alex Kehayes

Yamaha starting problem
I was with a friend on a newly purchased used boat and we had the problem of the starter gear "popping up." Someone more knowlegeable suggested reversing the battery wires. Voila! a quick fix. So, pull the starter cable to see the direction of turn appropriate for the starter. If it is not...

COMPANIONWAY LOCK
My '99 Capella uses a Mobella "Talon" lock. Look @ Southco.com they now sell the locks. Don't know if yours is the same. Alex Kehayes 36073

I've not seen published a suggested rpm for the 18 hp Yanmars. Anyone have information? Alex Kehayes 36073

Faucet aerators
We would like to put aerators or "bubblers" on our faucets to reduce splashing and water consumption. Has anyone found these devices to fit our plumbing? Thanks. Alex Kehayes. 36073.

OB vs DIESEL
"Forget the AC underway." I groaned when my wife informed me that if I wanted her to sail with me in North Carolina in the summer we would need AC, yes, underway. I bit the bullet, installed the Entec genset and Westerbeke 17000 AC-heater. My brothers who helped me sail the boat from Ft. L...

Anchoring a cat
In the interest of sloth, I stopped using a bridle. Now I have to justify this unseamanlike behavior. Justification 1. If I had to raise anchor and get underway in an emergency situation I have one less line and rolling hitch to dismantle. Justification 2. If quartering the waves is more comfortable...

LOOKING FOR A CAT
There is absolutely NO SUBSTITUTE for a test charter. After a week on our first choice catamaran we began to search anew. Found a PDQ 36, chartered a sistership, bought the PDQ. No regrets. Alex Kehayes 36073.
