Re: Cruising ICW North Palm City to Charleston

Hi Ty. Thank you and thanks for watching. We're having fun with it. Unfortunately, my Mom is getting on in the years so our plan is to spend time with her this summer which means going up to CT by car. I's very bittersweet as we love the Stonington\Block\Narragansett area. Hopefully next year. We've...

Re: Cruising ICW North Palm City to Charleston

Congrats on the new boat.

It would help to know what speed you plan on cruising at and how many hours per day that you think you will average.

Re: Starlink?

We have had Starlink for a year and are currently on the mobile plan. I used a fishing rod holder mounted up high on a crossbar on the mast. I just removed the Starlink base and the post fits nicely in the rod holder with a little gorilla tape wrapped around the pole to keep it snug. I drilled out t...

Re: New MV 34 owners

Welcome to the family! When we purchased ours the surveyor noted that we couldn't achieve max RPMs. Upon haul out he discovered that the props were 3 blade 17x17 which were over pitched. There's only so much a shop can do to correct the pitch so we invested in new 4 blade, 17x13 props. We were then ...

Re: Crossing Miami to Bimini

If you haven't already done so I would suggest that you download the mobile App called Windy. On it you can see various weather models and predictions for wind speed, wave heights and swells for any location. Right now Saturday looks really good from Miami to Bimini - very light wind, 2 foot waves, ...

Re: Quick Genius windlass problem

So, 19 years after this post I have the same exact issue where the chain stripper piece broke (meaning I am unable to retract the anchor as the chain jams in the gypsy) and to remove the old stripper I was able to get the aft bolt off but sheared the head off of the fore bolt. Quick no longer makes ...

Re: Xantrex Pathmaker

I have had this done by James Power. All I can offer is pictures. I can get you better ones when I'm back on the boat. Works great. The only thing is that you can no longer combine house and start with a toggle switch, if ever needed. James mentioned that you could easily make and rig a jumper cable...

Re: Solar System Connection

Hi Felix,

I believe we met in the St Aug marina last month.

My guy (marine electrician) wired my controller directly to the house bank. He did so by running the wire to the hose battery switch and connecting to a pole on the battery side of the switch.

Re: Jabsco Toilet Model Number

I just replaced my macerator on my 2005. I couldn't find any model on the toilet. I did find a model number on the macerator but the model number since changed. Through extensive google searching i finally found a cross reference. It fit perfectly. Purchased on Amazon and received next day. Jabsco 3...

Solar panel wiring

if you have solar, how did you wire the controller to the batteries? My guy suggested the other side of the house battery switch so that it still charges when the bank is switched off. Wondering what you all have done. I have seen posts about wiring to a shunt and also to the bus bars to take advant...

Re: A tale of two anti-siphon vents

John, Mine don't have the valve. My research tells me that the ones with the valves are more susceptible to clogging from salt crystals and debris and the ones without are more foolproof. Units with the one way valve might get a drop or two of water occasionally and not the steady stream that we are...

A tale of two anti-siphon vents

So we know that our PDQs are equipped with an anti-siphon device because the engines sit below the water line. If we didn't have them, raw water could continue to siphon in after turning off the engine, backing up through the exhaust, and flooding the cylinder heads causing the dreaded hydrolock. Th...

Re: BougeRV Portable Freezer

I have been using mine for refrigeration (drinks only) and from a cooling perspective it has worked great in the south facing FL sun all winter and spring. One problem I had is that the digital display became so faint it was unreadable in sunlight. My unit sits behind the helm chair so it's somewhat...
