Re: Bottom Paint

Both Easy Riders and Island Time have had Micron CSC Antifouling Paint failures. Easy Riders was painted in December, and Island Time's about a year and a half ago. On Easy Riders, the paint itself is in great condition, it's just lost its AF characteristics. Like John, I've been using Micron CSC in...

Re: Prop Nut Zincs - Life Extension Tips

Also, if I had better reading comprehension skills, I would have remembered this post from Chris Head :) "Not related to pitting, but worth sharing is our experience with premature prop nut anode failure and fit. Our former tug used the same prop nut anodes. Some tug owners including us experie...

Prop Nut Zincs - Life Extension Tips

For those of us using the Series D Prop Nut Zincs, here are some tips I got from Rob the Diver in Palm Coast (386-793-4746). There's essentially a design flaw, so he modifies the zinc by cutting about 1/8 inch off the big end of the zinc. This enables the zinc to seat better on the cone when it's in...

Re: High Oil Pressure

Hi Nick !

I went through 2 rounds of this on Easy Riders, and like John, it was the oil pressure sender switch.

Re: Hull Parts, Bow Cap and Spray Deflector

On Easy Riders, I'm not sure what the deflector material was. It was very stiff, and may have been a rubber or epoxy.

Prop Zinc Wear

My port prop zinc is wearing at 2 to 3 times the rate of the starboard zinc.

I had installed a new one 10 days before I hauled out - the zinc was already pitted at haul out.

The zincs are from boatzincs.com.

Any ideas?

Re: Exhaust System Failure - Check Yours!

Following up on the last post - I pulled the port turbo, got it on the workbench as Alan suggested, and got nowhere. I took it to a small auto engine shop, and they were able to remove the screws. They put A LOT more heat on it than I was with the little torch. There was no corrosion, but I'll sleep...

New Bifacial Solar Panels

I successfully swapped my two old Kyocera 140 watt panels for two new 200 watt bifacial panels. Wired in series. Island Time and Flip Turn expressed concerns about my casual approach to the electrical engineering aspects and provided some good advice. My main criteria in panel selection was that the...

Re: BougeRV Portable Freezer

My Bouge RV Freezer had been stored in the bow locker for about 8 months. I fired it up to test it, and sure enough got an (E2?) error on the fan. It was still under warranty. I emailed Bouge on Amazon. The good news was that they shipped a new fan immediately, and the bad news was that it was shipp...

Re: CONVERSION TO LITHIUM BATTERY

Hi BJ ! I'm planning a solar upgrade to switch to Bifacial Panels on Easy Riders and was considering a Lithium conversion also. Other than your alternator isolators, were there any other components that you installed - anything special to handle the combiner or starting batteries? Do the MPPT's feed...

Re: Solar Hot (Warm) Water For Showering ?

John Cummings, damn if you are not right again ! It looks like by far the simplest route to go is to run the water heater off the inverter, which I'm already wired for. Here's what I've found out so far, for those who are interested. If you Youtube search "solar dump load water heater" the...

Re: Catch 22

Hi John !

On my Xantrex remote control panel, there is a "power share" button on the right side. Check that it's set to the highest point ">30".

I have a 2010 Xantrex. The manual says that the charger will pull 20 amps, but the highest I've seen on genset is about 12 amps.

Re: In search of PDQ 34

Hi Don ! The PDQ's are fantastic boats for cruising, and the demand is high. I suggest that you call Beth Simpkins at Rhumbline Yacht Sales in Stuart. Rhumbline is very active with the owner's group and sponsors the annual rendezvous (Jan 20th in Stuart), and Flotillas. Many PDQers list their boats ...
