Re: Prop Zinc Wear

Thanks, John, I'll check it out. We do have line cutters, so shaft zincs aren't an option.

Re: Exhaust System Failure - Check Yours!

About 100 hours after Shearwater installed our replacement engine our spacer backed off the turbo. I believe the screws were not the correct ones because the heads did not sit flush with the face of the spacer which allowed them to back out a bit causing an exhaust leak. Fortunately, the exhaust occ...

Re: Prop Zinc Wear

Not related to pitting, but worth sharing is our experience with premature prop nut anode failure and fit. Our former tug used the same prop nut anodes. Some tug owners including us experienced the anodes becoming loose on the nut due to more rapid perishing where the allen bolt secured the zinc to ...

Re: Has anyone installed a mini split?

Hey Mike! I'm excited to hear that you are creating a solar hot water solution that we all can copy  I can wait till you get around to installing the mini split because our main cabin a/c is relatively new. I think I'll just replace the aft unit with another 120v reverse cycle. The question is ...

Has anyone installed a mini split?

Now that I have your attention, I'm looking for suggestions for a replacement for our aft Cruiseair reverse cycle. Though I don't think a mini split is a solution for the aft cabins because of the ducts to the two hulls. Does anyone have any brand/model recommendations other than Dometic? Webasto ha...

Re: Great Loop 2024

Hey Mike,

We'll likely join you heading North next spring. We're not sure if we'll then head up the Hudson or home to cruise New England for the summer. Right now we're just looking forward to getting back on the boat this winter and going to the Bahamas!

Re: Solar Hot (Warm) Water For Showering ?

Hey Mike - this is something on my wish list. Ideally, there would be a marine water heater that had two element-fitting ports. I don't think there is such a thing, at least for marine use. So it's my understanding that you must replace the 120 V element with a 12 V. Then use your excess solar to po...

Re: Replacement Mattresses

You would want to continue using the plastic air vent under any replacement mattress to prevent condensation. I don't know anything about the replacement mattress in the newsletter. We do have some Dormeo 2" toppers on our original mattresses. They add to the comfort without making it too diffi...

Re: BougeRV Portable Freezer

Update: The price is now back above $200. However, I can tell you that I had it as a saved item in my Amazon account for several months. One day I received a notification that if I ordered in the next 24 hours the price was significantly reduced. Much like leaving a store web site with items in your...

We haven't put ours into service yet. But in testing empty it reached the advertised coldest temperature. The price has now dropped below $200. No affiliation or compensation, or whatever disclaimer is needed here. Just a PSA. https://a.co/d/0P1z13v

Re: Transmission Maintenance Schedule

Try Jimmey Wilson, CJ Marine Propulsion Services in Fort Pierce, 772-801-1771. He was recommended by Shearwater Marine (Yanmar) in Stuart for a rebuild of one of our ZF 25s that was leaking.

Re: Boat Wrap Instead of Paint

Warning! Stay away from Maurice and Renee! We spent last winter on a mooring next to them in Stuart where they were relentless with their boat chores and improvements. Every morning we would peek out to see what work they were doing. We knew we were slackers when I saw Renee's legs sticking out of t...

Re: Storage around lower helm seat

Not to derail this post (leave it to a newbie!) - but it seems like a good place to ask if anyone has reconfigured or replaced their lower helm seat so that it can swivel and be better seating for the upper sitting area. We infrequently run the boat from inside and it would be more useful to us as m...

Re: Generator raw water pump losing its prime

Just throwing out here that our fix to the strainer draining was to insert a short piece of PVC pipe about 3/4 of the inside height of the strainer and seal it into the strainer inflow hole. The strainer now holds water to the top of the pipe. Also, we had recurring shutdown issues and did the usual...
