Re: Charging Battery with Generator

Another follow up. I turned a lot of stuff on last night and this morning the battery was at 71%. I've been charging and it seems that I get about 5% per hour of charge. I know this can be incredibly variable (cloudy day with lots of solar, AC on some, charging my dinghy outboard battery, water heat...

Re: Charging Battery with Generator

THANK YOU Duane and Bryan!! Between you two we solved at least half of it. First, my battery voltage settings in the MPPT app for absorption, float, and equalization were way off for my lead acid batteries. Second, the person that installed my solar wired the negative from the MPPT directly to the b...

Charging Battery with Generator

You'd think I would know this by now... I'm spending a lot more time on a mooring ball and on anchor now and getting used to being on solar/battery/generator. I think my system is doing pretty good. I just upgraded the solar and do get some charging. Yesterday my batteries went from 100% to 85% in a...

Re: Starlink?

As far as power... I had James and Adam install a 12v power strip on the port side compartment on the interior of the 2006. All of the Starlink and networking stuff is up there. I plugged a few USB adapters in as well to power the routers. Since I access this compartment a bit I replaced the screws ...

Re: Starlink?

Mine is the RV service, gen2 dish (dishy). It needs 48v, I'm not sure about the newer gen3. I bought a bunch of hardware that powers it on 12v. It's all been working really good for the last year. Here's a diagram. diagram.png First, I bought a 12v to 48v converter. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...

Re: Starlink?

Ditto, I've had it a year and am also on the RV plan. Like Bryan I mounted mine in a fishing pole holder. I also wedged it in there and added a hose clamp to tie it down, but I think what I did is complete overkill. I mounted mine on the port side aft flybridge handrail. I have heard that it works i...

Rudder Shaft Size

Hi everyone. I had my rudder packing replaced and the installer left the tiller arm connection a bit loose and the key needs to be replaced. Does anyone know the shaft/key size that I need to get? Thank you!

Disregard... I found it, 1/4" key.

The attached picture is from a slide that Dick Tuschick presented at the PDQ owners gathering this year. It shows some awesome criteria for good, OK, and no-go weather specific to the PDQ.

Re: Queen mattress

I've had two of these same mattresses for about a year. Yes, exact fit as it's a standard queen. One side is firm and the other soft. Love them.

Re: Dyneema Lifelines

Thanks Duane. Yes, you're correct. The 200 lbs is a design load that I borrowed from OSHA requirements for construction sites for guardrail systems. That is the design load, so the actual load you're correct is significantly higher, had it backwards. My thinking is that the Dyneema is stronger than ...

Dyneema Lifelines

Hello PDQ'ers. My lifelines were rusty and old. The vinyl coating was deteriorating, and I cut myself a few times on some wires that were sticking out. I replaced them all with Dyneema and they look great. Thought I'd share what I did. Before and after pics attached. Dyneema is super strong, approac...

Re: CONVERSION TO LITHIUM BATTERY

At this rate we may be able to get a discount for doing 6 boats at once, haha! I'm looking for the same. There's a place in Fort Lauderdale, eMarine Inc that does the electrical design and sells the parts. Pretty good prices. It's up to us to find the installer.

Re: Refrigerator Temp High

Thanks for the replies everyone. Turns out I needed to defrost. Plus I was backwards on the dial settings. 1 is warmer, not colder like I thought. I also saw a post from Russ on Twin Sisters that gives a good technique for defrosting every few weeks. https://esc-pod.com/pdq-34-upgrades-modifications...

Refrigerator Temp High

I have a temperature sensor in my fridge and pretty much over the over the 10 months or so (since I bought the boat) the temperature has been a consistent 35-38 degrees when set around 5 on the dial. Over the last few days it has crept up to above 40 degrees and I've turned the dial down, it's now a...
