Re: Davit failures

Hi Mark

Do a search of this powercat forum for my postings of May 12 and Sept 1, both in 2012. Be pleased to answer any Qs they don't answer.

Re: Davit failures

Our failure was at the elbow (old style davits) which we subsequently had reinforced (by original davit manufacturer in Canada) with a box style brace welded to reinforce the elbow. Never any issues with fiberglass mounting platform.

Re: Davit failures

Mark. I had a failed davit experience with the 'older' style davit (I have hull number 76). Do a forum search for my May 19, 2012 posting on failure with pictures and Sept 01, 2012 resolution. I currently carry a 9'3" RIB with 70 lb motor without any issues.

Engine Hatch Gasket

The rubber gasket which surrounds the front access opening on each main engine is falling apart. This is the gasket which attaches to the engine box and goes between between the front access 'hatch' and the engine box. About 10 feet long. Anyone had any luck finding a replacement source? Thanks. Re: Prospective buyer of MV 34

Here is a link to an 2012 article describing the demise of Pearson. I had visited the (now former) Pearson factory when there were finishing up their run of 40 footers for the USCG and saw the recently arrived PDQ molds which had been cut down and shipped to Rhode Island. They were in a corner of th...

Re: flybridge steps?

A thought. Try contacting these folks. They build the various davit styles and might have been involved with the FB ladder.

Re: Davit Failure

Of course. 9.9HP Mercury on a 9'3" Caribe. Obviously too much weight for the design limits.

For Sale: Bahamas charts, chips, books, guides

Reluctantly we have made our last trip to the Bahamas and hope others can use the nav materials we've used. Collection included all three 2011 Explorer Charts, various C-Map NT+Wide+ chips, Maptech Chartkits and crusing guides. I'd like $575 for the lot. If interested, Email me at soy777@verizon.net...

Re: Davit Failure

Here is an update on my port davit replacement. I tracked down the original manufacturer of these davits for PDQ (they made the 'old' style, not sure if they also made the new style integrated into the seat). They explained there was an original design, a later mod 1 (with a half-moon shaped single ...

Re: Opening forward hatch all the way for more air

I spent last winter in the Bahamas using a small piece of line one, end tied to the FB windscreen support and the other with two loops sized to slide over the center window locking handle - one loop to position the window wide open and a second about 1/3 open. When not in use, line folds up in back ...

Davit Failure

My port dinghy davit failed while the Chesapeake Bay was establishing who was boss during a recent transit. Bent about 20" up from the base at the reinforced bend. I gather this is not a new occurance for those PDQs with the 'old style' davits. Apart from the forum suggestion (thank you Duetto)...

Re: Anchor chain castles lifting chain off gypsy

I realize this is opening a hotly debated topic, but do you really need 160 feet of chain - given this problem let alone the amount of excess weight you are loading onto the boat. I'd suggest you could use 1/3 of what you currently have on board plus 200 feet of 5/8" 3 strand nylon and still sl...

Re: davit block and tackle

I've got 2 suugestions, depending on the line size you'd prefer to use, 5/16" or 3/8". I'd recommend 3/8" as more hand friendly. For 5/16th line: Harken 29mm Carbo blocks: #344 (triple with swivel) and #347 (triple, becket with cam). Gives a 6:1 advantage For 3/8th line: Harken 40mm C...
