Re: Does Shallow Water Slow You Down?
Hi Sandy, At 18 to 20 mph. all the boats I have ever had would speed up as much as 2 mph. in water 10 ft. or less. My explanation is that the bottom under your boat is impacted in a similar way as in flying where we call it ground effect, therefore the boat is lifted somewhat reducing the wetted sur...

MV 41 Davit Replacement
I replaced the factory installed davits with the one and only seat/davit much like on the MV 34. This should solve the structural problems. It is extremely strong, good looking and practical. Armin Quickert MV 41/09.

Stuffing Box
Hi Gary. On one of my former boats Marilyn and I removed both a shaft and a rudder ( to to be repaired ), while in the water. She inserted a steel plug while I pulled out the shafts under water. I used an air compressor 110 volt, hose and pressure regulator. We did not sink the boat. Regarding your ...

Aqua Drives MV34/78
Hi Tom, I had aqua drives, and I did not think the difference re vibrations and noise etc., warranted the extra expense. I would have tried 4 bladed props, 17 x 14 to replace the 3 blade 17x 16. Now that I own PDQ 41/09, I am finding an extremely quiet vibration free boat. The differece being the el...

Rudder Alignment
Here is how I fixed the problem. First go to the installation manual and make sure the installer followed the measurements suggested in the manual. 1. Using the equalising valve reset both port and stbd. settings. 2. Set the port rudder to north/south, making sure that you check visually the rudder ...

Winterizing A/C and Raw water washdown.
It is relatively easy to winterize the engines by using the strainers and the pressure water system by using the empty watertank, I found it very challenging to remove hoses to address the three items in question. I have used the following now for two years. Using a 45 gal drum to hold the plumbing ...

Rudder Alignment
I pulled Milky Way out of the water at our home last Monday. Found the rudders tipped to the outside about 5 degrees. This explains why the rooster tails behind the boat were to the outside instead of directly to the rear. I did the rudder alignment as per the mamual but did not correct the problem....

Prosine 2000 Problems
Hi! I had Prosine faults, and since I replaced the 100 amp pathfinder combiner with a 250 amp unit, I have had absolutely no problems. The original unit had a chatter (quite noisy), and the solenoids were extremely hot to touch. My settings of the three small dials are left one at 11 o'clock, and th...

Sno' Dog Performance figures.
Hi, I agree with your comments 41 vs 34. I do believe that your partner might experience more of a challenge docking ,as jumping off the side deck would be dangerous because of the higher freeboard on the 41. Regarding your performance figures, take a look at my comments on the subject of Distance p...

Dear Craig, Marilyn and I have had Milky Way MV34/78 exactly one year. We have made some minor alterations, we like the layout very much. We lounge on our reapolstered and raised by 4 inches lower helm seat as well as our L shaped settee. You can also do the same in the main salon area, as I modifie...

On the subject of spray. I Have been using a triangulated mesh ( the same material as the window coverings). Reinforce the outer edge with canvass. Install fasteners starting at the anchor going both left and right around the inner bow curves and then forward to the furthest point of the inner bow. ...

Overheating 100 hp engine/ Heatercraft heater.
Hi! Runing at cruising speed, turned on heater and after half hour the stbd.engine heat alarm sounded and the red diode came on the temp gauge. turned off the heater and alarm went off. Checked installation and found it ok. Called Heatercraft and they suggested a smaller boosterpump. The overheating...
