Re: Shaft vibration

Jim, Sorry for the late reply. I don't check in often enough here! I am very happy with the 1/2 bearings and no longer considering aqua drives. We've taken many trips to the keys and spent over a month in the Bahamas this summer. The bilges are still dry and vibration has improved significantly sinc...

Re: E80 display

I had my E80 rebuilt by Raymarine for a fixed fee - just can't remember how much it was.

Re: Shaft vibration

Over a year, several trips to the Keys and one through the Northern Bahamas, from Miami; Catatonics bilges are dry as a bone (no more dripping seals) and no more vibration in the shafts.

Re: Bahamas customs fees

I normally clear in Green Turtle while on the hook - for almost 20 years!! First and last time to clear in Marsh Harbour - had to go to a marina and customs officer never set foot on the boat - then had to wait for immigration to show up at marina office... The economy is suffering here - I think of...

Bahamas customs fees

Just a heads up. Even though the Bahamian customs website and other publications show a $150 entry fee for boats 35 feet and under, the actual cut off is now thirty feet. When I asked at the customs office, they showed my an official letter dated April 2012 showing the cut off as 30 feet. I recall a...

Looking for PDQ 41 Powercat

Love our 2005 PDQ 34 Powercat Hull 74 but would really like a larger boat. Would love to find a 41 owner that would like to downsize. Our boat is in excellent ready to cruise condition with the following recent improvements: Stidd Upper Helm Chair New navy sunbrella interior 2012 New navy Bimini and...

Re: Bigger dinghy?

We are also looking to get a Torqeedo electric outboard so my wife can use the dinghy without me. Seems pretty common in my circle, as friends who bought Torqeedos all say their wives then jumped into the dinghy alone for the first time and took off as if they were pros. Unless the outboard has elec...

Re: Shaft vibration

We've had the boat to the keyes several times. She runs smooth as silk and bilges are bone dry. Very happy with the results! Our favorite upgrade was moving the water heater to the forward starboard hull - it is instant hot water in the shower!!! No wasting fresh water waiting for it to get warm! :)

Re: IPad Navigation

p.s. for trip planning I use Navionics Nav planner 2 on a windows PC. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on apple products. You can plot routes then tranfer to CF card via provided USB reader then upload onto your Raymarine, if that is what you have.

Re: IPad Navigation

Make sure you get the ipad 3g - not just the wireless Ipad. I bought the wireless ipad first, without the 3g capability. GPS does not work on the wireless ipad. I returned it and bought the 3g. I do not use the 3g for internet - I use my iphone as a hotspot. You must make sure both devices are conne...

Re: Shaft vibration

Mark told me he had to use a slightly smaller OD bearing since the forward portion of the stern tube was not machined. I think he used 5200 or epoxy. The tubes and seals look the same as before the change. I was concerned the bearings would never come out again after using 5200. He said they will be...

John, Its Maureen not David. I'm captnautigal!!! We are a not your ordinary cruising couple. I've been captaining boats for about twenty years. Even have my Masters. My experience is extensive in the Bahamas, I ran a boat from Nova Scotia back to the states and crewed a bit in Alaska. Can't count th...

Re: Prop anti-fouling

We just had slick shield applied at our haulout at Stuart Yacht. Not sure of results yet. Two years ago we had Prop speed applied. Wasn't impressed with prop speed - especially for the money.

Re: Water Heater Check Valve

Have to tell you we replaced our water heater at Stuart Yacht while hauled out with our shaft issues. I was tired of waiting for hot water when showering. Refused to stand under cold water - so always wasted the first few gallons waiting for it to arrive from the aft port hull. We bought a new Isote...

Re: Shaft vibration

Wanted to post this follow up. I also posted in on the Bent Shaft topic since it applies there as well: Catatonic is back in the water. Stuart Yacht did a great job with our shafts. We had them removed from the boat. They were sent to the shop to be examined and ultimately straightened and recondidt...
