Re: Solar only arch
Tom, I have been looking into new davits for some time now. First looked into an arch arrangement which really suit cats, but due to weight and cost, eliminated that. My goal was to be able to lift the dinghy much higher and provide a platform for solar panels without adding much weight. So for my S...

Re: Proper prop pitch for PDQ 36 with YGM20s
We have the same Yanmars on our 32LRC and when we purchased the boat the PO said the Michigan Props, original from PDQ, were not ideal and full crusing RPM would put too much strain on engines. I asked my mechanic and he advised that it is a complicated process to determine the proper prop size &...

Stern arch
I would like to replace the factory dinghy davits (two prongs) with an arch made of either stainless steel or aluminium tubing that would elevate the dinghy to a higher and safer position, and serve as a platform for solar panels and various antennae. I've seen some beautiful and very functional arc...

Re: PDQ 32 LRC
We have the 32 LRC, hull # 16, and "Evening Star" is our first big boat. I was not considering the 36 although it is a beautiful boat and I sailed briefly on my friend's "Attitude", very nice! I reviewed the treads in the Forum before purchase 3 yrs ago and was swayed toward the ...

Re: Dinghy survey
Thanks for the weight info Mike. I would estimate the 9'6" alum rib I'm considering weighs about the same as yours @ about 100 lbs with the 4 stroke 9.9 only 9 lbs more, so not a lot of difference. I opened the MotorMate crane and set it on the boat. It has not been used before but it will defi...

Re: Dinghy survey
Mike & Rebecca - What is the combined weight of your new RIB & motor, if you know? The location of the davit lift points is also a problem for my current achilles, too high, requiring motor removal everytime, and as you say, a PITA, even though only a 2HP that is light, except on a wet and b...

Re: Dinghy survey
Thank you thinwater and Mike for the excellent advice.I did some measurements and the 9'6" length will just fit. Still concerned about the weight so I'm still discussing options with the dealer. Stepping down a bit, they also have an 9' AB aluminum RIB that is 80 lbs (about 25 lbs less than the...

Re: Yanmar Replacement Diesels
Dale, The regional Yanmar rep I spoke to recently also said these engines should last over 10,000 hours if properly maintained, so a cracked piston at 2100 hours is probably unusual. I would call your regional rep for some suggestions. As you see from these posts, I just had a rebuild at 3,200 hours...

Re: Dinghy survey
Does anyone know the weight limitations for the dinghy davits? I don't have any specs on them in my brochure packets that came with the boat from the PO. We are currently looking at new dinghy models and are impressed with the new AB aluminium RIBs, although the price is a bit steep but maybe worth ...

Re: Yanmar Replacement Diesels
Phil, My rebuild came to $5K. The mechanic said there had been water intrusion because of so much pitting inside. A ticking time bomb! Where, when or how water came in is the ? Also, my exhaust risers were rusted and clogged, requiring replacement. Not expensive and should be replaced every 5 years ...

Re: Dog House
Mike and Rebecca,
As you are heading south, we are in Stuart, on the Manatee Pocket (St Lucie Inlet). Tom (Doghouse) travels a lot so perhaps did not read your message right away. Lots of good anchorages and marinas in this area. Call us if you are passing by/stopping in. (772) 631-5690

Re: Twists in the jib sheet
I meant to post this when I replaced my jib sheet, along with all my running rigging, several months ago but.... anyway, the twists no longer exists. I think the lines were all original and everything works nicely now with new lines.

Re: Dinghy survey
We have an Achilles 8'6", wood floor with a 2HP 2 stroke Suzuki. I have only used it a little as we have not cruised the boat yet but so far I've spent more time fixing stubborn leaks and the wood floor than anything else. It's slow and does not steer well with the flat bottom and I would not b...

Re: “Bunking a PDQ Altar supported only by supports under the Br
The length of the cross members should be about 7 feet. I have Evening Star (hull #16) on a lift in the Manatee Pocket in Port Salerno, Fl. I used 2X12 PT lumber for all of my supports. I have aluminum I beams connected to the lift cross I beams with a 2X12X12' laying on top and carpeted that provid...

Re: Yanmar Replacement Diesels
Phil & Gary, I bought the boat a little over a year ago. Engines had about 3,000 hours. The port engine, same one now being rebuilt, had about 100 - 200 hours according to prior owner after rebuild. It was never clear to me what happened to cause the first rebuild but it ran well for the next 15...
