Re: 75 HP SYNTHETIC OIL SUGGESTIONS
They are all basically the same. Use the recommended viscosity and DO NOT use a synthetic blend. Mobil 1 is usually priced OK at Walmart.

Re: PDQ 36 Capsize
The 32 capsize in California was a case of extreme stupidity. After being advised of severe weather by myself and several others the crew chose to enter the Pacific in gale conditions putting themselves and their boat at extreme risk. If the brother of the “captain” hadn’t rented a Epirb none of the...

Re: Bahamas crossing
Under no circumstances should you cross if anything on the boat is questionable. When you do cross have plenty of spare parts and know how to install them. Service in the Bahamas is sparse and parts stores generally have nothing but a catalog.

Re: fuel "burping"?
The problem lies with the vent hose. We needed to adjust ours so that there was a constant rise toward the vent. Most of them have a dip in the hose, which allows fuel to collect in the dip. It may take several small blocks to elevate portions of the hose to insure a constant rise. You can also plac...

Re: Procedure for rudder dropping
Brendan,
You pretty much have the procedure. If you cannot unscrew the safety bolt you may have to cut it with a grinder and tap it out.

Re: Fuel tank
The original tanks were aluminum. The earliest models were smaller (capacity unknown), the later ones were 55 gallon. there has always been a vent problem with PDQ tanks. If yo look at the vent hose you will probably find a dip in the hose rather than a rising run. This retains fuel and does not all...

Re: Need info on Bahamas trip please
Sam, We spent 4 1/2 months in the Bahamas, mostly the Exumas. I would recommend trying to get to Georgetown in time for the Cruisers Regatta, usually around the end of Feb or early March ( https://georgetowncruisingregatta.wordpress.com ) ( https://www.facebook.com/GTRegatta/ ). You will need a set ...
