Our Hull #80 is different from older models, but I don't know when the change took place. The older lids to the engine are generally flat like the cover to a box. Our lid wraps down from the top about 10 inches (estimated) allowing some access from the side. I imagine this could be to our advantage ...

LaVac

Hi Alex: We've lived aboard for 6 yers now and the LaVac is fine. I keep an extra pump so if the joker valve stops working, I can swap out easily and rebuild at my leisure. We get our parts and such from Defender and didn't feel it was "pricey", but I understand St. Bredans Mail Service is...

Fridge latch replacement on 36080

Has anyone found a source for a replacement latch for the upright fridge? Ours is starting to pop open every now & then. I contacted PDQ but want a second thread in case they don't get back to me quickly. We are hull #80 (36080).

Rudder Post

As luck would have it, a cruiser in the Marina here at Lucaya had access to equipment and experience. It's straight and the cost was more than reasonable.

Replacement 9.9 Yamaha's

While in Nassau, I visited the Yamaha dealer (Harbourside Marine). They do have (what appears to be) the old style 9.9's that are still sold internationally. There is a 6 month lead time on the order and I didn't get a price since I'm still good for a year or more. For info, e-mail Nicolas Rademaker...

Straightening a bent rudder post.

We are looking for someone along the east coat to straighten our slightly bent rudder post on our PDQ36. Can anyone recommend someone convenient to the coastal waters between VA and Mass? The rudder will be off the boat since we have a spare. Thanks!!!

Ed is 100% correct about the Fortress and shallow sand. Don't even consider it. East Coast from Maine to mid-Florida, the Fortress has never let us down. However, there is an art to deploying it correctly which will come with experience. The trick is to let it down slow so it flys out a little and b...

Forgot to add that chain is VERY important if you get into wind vs. current conditions. A line rode gets wrapped around the keel or rudder and creates BIG problems. We now have 120 feet on the Fortress and 100 on the Spade. We also have a Fortress FX23 for use as a stern anchor when conditions dicta...

We use the 44 or 45 lb. steel spade on our PDQ 36 in sandy conditions. Throughout most of the east coast, we use a Fortress FX37 - they love mud. Check the manufacturers sizing charts and go one bigger for a good night's sleep.

Key West Moorings

Skipper Bob reports that the City of Key West has 160 moorings in Garrison Bight , east of Fleming Key, for rent. Does anyone have details? Are there usually moorings available? Can they be reserved? Do you have a contact number? Thanks!!!
