you're pretty handy but just can't afford a PDQ?
Think again. I have stopped sailing because I'm too fat, old, and lazy. Page 83 really needs a new owner. So, without peeing off all my PDQ friends by printing what I'm selling her for, send me an email at sandydaugherty@att.net. You could be pleasantly surprised.

Re: Keel crack
PDQ 36 hulls were laid up in halves then joined down the middle. There is a 3-4" bump out at the lowest point to which is glued a hollow sacrificial keel. If you hit something hard enough to damage the keel it will crush or dent and fill with water, but since the hull is not breached, you can c...

Lonely, neglected PDQ 36 seeks long term relationship
Former Beauty Queen (Miss Santa Maria Escobar) ISO patient and caring new significant other. Virtually abandoned by present lover who was led astray by flashy dagger boards and huge rear end. Very well equipped and experienced, but NEEDY. Why don't you come up and see me sometime? I'm not tha...

Re: Selden In-Boom Reefing
Congrats. I've wondered if a long piece of Nylon sheet* would keep the cars and lines separated.

Re: Selden In-Boom Reefing
I'll try to dig up a drawing for single line reefing. It requires a winch, but is a fast reefing method. The two-sheave cars that move inside the boom are critical elements. There is some advantage to having a loose footed main for this system. The beauty of single line reefing is that no one needs ...

Re: Lightning Strike
My PDQ32 was struck by lightning, everything electronic was fried, and was replaced by a very good insurance policy. This got me launched on a 5 year study of everything I could find about lightning. I am left with the conclusion that lightning is so complex and varied that anyone bold enough to pre...

Re: Rudder inspection or replacement?
Many rudders built this way have positive buoyancy.

Re: 36 with daggerboards?
Its been a couple of years, but I remember seeing a boat that looked very much like a 36, but seemed to be bigger. I think it was in the Spanish Virgins.

Re: Rudder inspection or replacement?
There is a tweak for a rudder that has been bent and de-bent. Its possible that the accident and repair have resulted in a new zero angle of attack. That is the position where the rudder exerts no side-ways thrust. it needs to be set with the boat moving through the water without wash from the engin...

Re: Rudder inspection or replacement?
Shake it. Does anything rattle? No? Put it back in the boat and sail until it falls out. Yes? see "No." There are only a few commercial grades of Stainless Steel that seriously resist rust, and they are all softer that what is needed for a rudder. The metal parts of a rudder consist of a s...

Re: Thelma and Louise Up To No Good
I hope that turned out ok for you, and that the following is redundant. It takes more than a carburetor bowl-full of ethanol to create the gobs of goo that plug things up: the problem starts in the tanks less than a month after they were last used. You could have a life-time supply of little amber g...

Re: Sawhorse for Outboards
I don't trust my memory on bolt sizes. Or much of anything else, for that matter. And Page 83 is on the hard behind a snow bank. But the bolts did come out of one of the dustier drawers at the old Hardware store in Deale, Maryland. Since then I've purchased a metric thread gage, and lost it.

Well done! I'll defer to Thinwater about carb cleaners and non-metallic parts.
