Re: Hardtops-a-building for Looking Glass

Correction. The Nidacore honeycomb is $106 for each 4'x7' sheet, 1.5" thick. Don't know why they make them only 7' long.

Hardtops-a-building for Looking Glass

I'm currently building a flybridge hardtop and aft deck hardtop for Looking Glass. The material is Nidacore 1.5" honeycomb with glass skins of 1708 biax fabric and polyester resin. This is my 4th boat hardtop. The flybridge top is 12' wide and 14' long, which will give more sun protection and a...

Re: Propane Tank replacements

Defender item 400468 from their catalog, $139, but the closeout ones ($110) may have another number. Manufacturer number is 1420-0017 for the 17 lb. There's also an 11 lb model, 1420-0011. I don't have the manuf name, the tanks are on the boat. Just go to Defender.com and search "LPG tanks".

Re: Propane Tank replacements

I just bought two fiberglass 17 lb capacity propane tanks on closeout from Defender.com two weeks ago, $110 each. They fit in the locker fine. Empty weight is 10.2 lbs each, vs 9.3 lbs for the original 10 lb aluminum tanks. Best of all, the tank sides are translucent and you can see the propane Leve...

Re: Fuel tank leakage

Thanks, James. I finally was able to remove the forward sole over the tank after carefully cutting away some of the vertical edge trim. Now I can get to the tank's front wall and start absorbing the very small amount of diesel there. And thanks to Coast-to-coast for the de oil it product. Will defin...

Fuel tank leakage

After transferring fuel from the fwd to the aft tank, I forgot to close the transfer valves. Fuel apparently siphoned from fwd to aft, filling the aft tank to the very top and then some. One or more of the aft tank top penetrations wasn't adequately sealed, and I discovered a layer of fuel on the to...

Re: Engine Hatch Gasket

Walmart and Home Depot both sell an appropriate gasket of white EPDM rubber. In the hardware isle. It's got peel and stick backing so is easy to apply. Be sure the surface is very clean and dry; rubbing alcohol and a rag does the job.

US Marine ultimate tank gauge

Our new 34 came with no gauges for holding tank and water tank. Access to the tank side is difficult. I came across this ultrasonic level sensor that mounts in a 1" hole in the tank top, in the Defender catalog. Has anyone used one of these? Does it work and does it get clogged-up? Am I better ...

Davit failures

I've read here of several early model davits that have failed. Since we're getting ready to upgrade our dinghy and motor (heavier), I wonder about strengthening my davits. Can anyone tell me where the early davits have failed? They look pretty strong to my eye. Is it the stainless that fails, or the...

Modern anchor fit on MV34 roller?

The 25 lb CQR on our 2002 is begging to be replaced with something larger and more modern. I like the Rocna or the new Vulcan. Anybody know how a 44 or 55 lb one would fit the bow roller without hitting the hull below? Or what other newer anchors fit well and work well?

Re: RIB that fits 34mv

Thanks for the help, everyone. I'll measure the spacing between my presumably older (2002) davits and check the lifting points spacing of any dinghy I buy. I measure 9'0" between the top of the hulls back there, so it's hard to understand how dinghies of 9.5 and 10' could be lifted up on the da...

RIB that fits 34mv

I just bought 2002 hull #19, (ex "Favorite", now "Looking Glass"), and need to buy a rigid bottom inflatable that will fit the davits and space between hulls. What RIB's do you have out there that you are happy with? I want one with 8-10 hp that will plane w 2 adults + groceries....
