Re: Bigger dinghy?
I suggest taking a look at the AB Ultra RIB. Fairly new, it has an unpainted aluminum hull and big tubes, lightweight and rugged. After weeks of agonizing and exploring the many dinghy alternatives, including a small cat RIB from New Zealand, I bought a 10-foot AB Ultra for our 41, Spitfire. A two-s...

Re: Battery combiner to replace Xantrex
This is a picture of the solenoid you can find online to replace the ones on the Xantrex combiner. If you copy it to your computer then zoom in, you can read all the information about it: http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a2ce29b3127ccef10464f7533000000030O00AZNnLNi1cMmgPbz4O/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/...

Re: Slick shield experience not so good
I just learned that the problem is that the coating does not stay on anything it is applied to, so it is a complete waste of money. And apparently the folks who recommended it at the PDQ Rendezvous got nowhere when they contacted the company who makes it. Another snake oil product in the marine indu...

Slick shield experience not so good
We put Slick Shield on Spitfire in March in Stuart. It seemed fine and I brought the boat up the coast to the Chesapeake. She has since traveled up to Long Island Sound. Now, after two weeks sitting in a slip in Port Washington, the running gear is covered and I could not get above 16 knots at 3400 ...

James Power had done a smaller one but it likely was sized for the 34 ...

Re: Waste Tank Level Indicator
I have no idea if the tank sensor is the same as was used on the 41, but I just cleaned it this morning. It is a WEMA holding tank sensor, I believe it is the SHS model. There is a diagram on the WEMA USA website. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a2db06b3127ccef063b9d4051600000030O00AZNnLNi1cMmgPbz...

Re: Anchor chain castles lifting chain off gypsy
Now that is a new twist I had not considered. I've always been a fan of all chain, and I thought the 41 came with all chain. The previous owner never anchored (the boat had a 35 Kingston anchor and 50 feet of chain) and Dick Tuschick and company never mentioned the PDQ being better off with a combin...

Anchor chain castles lifting chain off gypsy
I have a 41, but perhaps this issue is common with 34 owners as well. When I have a fair bit of chain out, retrieving the anchor results in the chain piling up under the windlass (I think they call this "castles" under the windlass). If I don't do something to break down the castle it will...

Re: Prop anti-fouling
We just had our props done using a new product that is supposed to be better than Prop Speed, and DIY. It is called Slick Shield, available from Stuart Yachts. Dick Tuschick raved about it at the PDQ Rendezvous.

Must Visit places on the West Coast of Florida
We are planning our first cruise from Stuart to the West Coast of Florida. We hope to visit Sanibel and Captiva, but I wonder if you folks might have recommendations of destinations that we simply MUST visit. My wife has never been to the Gulf Coast and I have not traveled from Stuart in that direct...

Re: Reading Light Replacements
So for those of you who replaced the halogen bulbs with LEDs, did you go with warm white or cool white? It seems most companies offer both.
Thanks for such good information!

I'm going to try to post an image of the dog ramp I made to see how posting works. I found Salwa's instruction on the forum.

Heavy weather strategies
I'm working on a project about power catamarans, and am curious how any of you handle rough weather under way. Most of the cats I have input from are much larger than PDQs, more like 50 and 60 footers, but I would think some of you have experienced heavy weather as well. And I'd like to hear how you...

Re: Anyone installed a boarding ramp?
I built a passarelle for our dog out of an eight-foot aluminum ladder. To keep it super light, I covered the space between the rungs with wood strips and flat hard foam over top. I attached rubber protectors on one end to protect the boat and two wheels on the other end, so the ramp can move with th...
