Re: Remove hot water heater
I have a larger, 11 gal tank in Loki. Its in the starboard aft cockpit locker, all the way to the side. I'm positive it was installed before the deck went on and will need some implement of destruction to remove it.

Re: Steering cables
Of course I ignored my problem and in 2011, while pulling into the fuel dock to top off before hauling, the steering completely seized! I made the last half mile to the hoist on the emergency tiller. The LRC seems to have an easier routing for the conduit/cables so the replacement was fairly straigh...

Re: Electric Head
Well, I'm a lot late on this thread ... A few years ago I replaced my Lavac head with a Raritan Elegance electric head. We've been extremely happy with the new head but there were a lot of twists and turns (literally, as it turned out) along the way. First, about the Lavac - I loved the Lavac in pri...

Re: Trampoline wanted
I'm thinking its time to get a new tramp - its not worn out yet but its getting rather frayed, but I'd rather do it a day early than a day late. Are folks still happy with Sunrise (multihullnets.com)? My old tramp is two part - is the one part design just as nice to walk on?

Re: Diesel Leaking from Fuel Vent
Hi Phil, unfortunately I've had some experience with this. First, to your PM question about raising fuel tank cover/cockpit floor. It should lift right up. If you've never had it up, its possible the black rubber foam gasket that runs around the edge had become one with the surface below, so some co...

Re: Pipe and Gasket for Waste System
A few years ago I rebuilt my head (installed a Raritan electric). I discovered that the old hose had been routed forward towards the desk, then aft to the holding tank, for a total of about 20 feet of hose below the level of the tank. This means about two gallows of water was needed to flush the was...

Re: Fresh water strainers on saildrives?
I keep meaning to put in proper filters but being lazy, put it off every year. However, I pick up enough eel grass to partially clog the heat exchangers and have to clean them out every 4 years or so. I know its time when the engine temp gets up to about 180; after cleaning I can run flat out at 165...

Re: Hammock Locations
Like Tanah-Keeta, we use a hammock-chair hanging from the Spinnaker halyard. It clips onto the forestay using the ATN Tacker we got for the asym-spinnaker. The halyard attachment includes a triple loop of shock-cord, so its known as the "bouncy-chair." Two kids can fit in and be bounced an...

Re: new owner with questions
The inside forward hatches on our 1999 36 have small gaps in the aft corners of the gaskets. They don't leak even in the heaviest rain storms, but on one occasion we nose dived through very steep chop (southwest end of the Cape Cod Canal) and a substantial amount of water made it through. I've found...

Re: Sailing without a motor
I have to confess that one of my favorite things about the PDQ 36 is the twin engines. Of course, they are most useful when maneuvering in tight quarters in a marina, but its also nice to know I can power against a headwind and chop whenever needed, and still make 7 knots in a calm. Perhaps I've gon...

Re: House Bank Batteries
I just put in my third set of Trojan T-105's in 12 years. The best price in my area can be had at a golf cart supplier - $125 each or $500 for the set last June. My old boat came with Rolls which lasted 10+ years but I figure in 10 years I'm more likely to trash the batteries through carelessness th...

Re: Stanchion Replacement?
Sam,
I will likely take you up on your kind offer. The delay is no problem because we'll be staying put on the Vineyard for a while. I'll post some pics so we can verify its a good match.
Thanks,
Jeff

Re: Stanchion Replacement?
After some searching, I'm thinking its either a Ronstan or a Goiot. The taper and the top seem to match. Both are about $100, which is what I was given to cover expenses.

Stanchion Replacement?
I was just "t-boned" by a very nice Shannon while on a mooring in Vineyard Haven. Fortunately, the only damage is a well bent stanchion. Since it is kinked, I think a replacement is best, but I don't know the manufacturer. I thought it was Gibb, but it could be Vetus, and I've seen a few o...

Re: PDQ and Pearson
I talked to a few of the Pearson folks at the Boston Boat Show this week and got the impression that not much work has been done on the PDQ line. They had a few orders but they were canceled with the recession, and they don't want to start production without some serious orders. Unfortunately they w...
