Re: Rudder assembly
Hey Cat Tales We did that job last year, and I don't have enough patience for the hot/cold technique, especially when laying with your head in that locker! 10 careful minutes with a cutoff wheel and angle grinder got them apart, and even then the hex head bolts wouldn't come out. Took everything to ...

North & South Bimini, Thirsty Turtle
Just a quick note, pics to follow. Spent last Sunday & Monday on North Bimini, tied up at Weech's Marina. Not a great place if you want to sleep on board, due to the 24/7 activity at the Govt dock nearby. Bimini Big Game Marina is closed, as are many of the bars & restaurants in Alice Town. ...

Re: Screen Rehab
Hi Tom Good luck with the screen remod, they're a PITA to work with. We ordered new screens from BOMAR but they still have the standard bug net mesh that is too large to keep the no-see-ums out. Defender has the no-see-um green mesh and for $30 you get enough to do all the frames. Everyone we've tal...

Re: Has anyone ever had a keel wrap on a PDQ?
It sounds pretty unlikely with a low aspect keel. You don't get a keel wrap, but in wind against currrent, the anchor line can rub at the leading or following edge of the keel to hull joint. On Tanahkeeta, it actually rubbed through sufficiently to cause a hole. This is when I changed to 60 ft of c...

Re: New Engine purchase
When all else fails, read the instructions. I should get that tattooed on my forehead, I think. The 2004 9.9s had Pull-Pull cables (pull for forward, pull for throttle). The 2009s are a Pull-Push setup. If you have the old Morse/Teleflex control box, disassemble the binnacle, rotate throttle cams 18...

Re: Ground Tackle
We're new at this, but spent 16 of the last 30 days at anchor on Bacchagato. The boat came with a 35# Delta, 15kg Bruce, and a Fortress FX16. The first 2 have 50' of 5/16 chain and 200' of nylon rode, the FX is on 15' of 1/4 chain and 150' of nylon as a stern anchor. The first couple of nights, we h...

Re: New Engine purchase
Question for anyone... we just installed new T9.9s in Bacchagato, using new Yamaha control cables and the new 10-pin wiring harnesses. The electrical wiring was basically plug-in with the Yamaha 704 pigtail adapter to connect to the old key switches, tachs and hour meters. Using the existing Morse/T...

Have you pulled your mast? FORESPAR ML-2 light wiring?
Hello all I'm trying to figure out the wiring run to the FORESPAR deck light/steaming light located on the front of the mast about 2/3 towards the top. Our original wires were cut and dropped back inside the mast (don't ask). Our PDQ has an Offshore Spars mast. At the mast base we have 3 fittings th...

Re: Adjustable salon Table
Bacchagato (ex Distant Music) is set up for interchangeable table supports. Since we're going cruising and space is at a premium, we have opted to reinstall the wine table and standard cushion fiddles. The table remains unchanged. We have the 2 Garelick aluminum adjustable supports if anyone wants t...

Re: Hatch Hinges
We had to replace a couple Lewmar side hatch hinges due to breakage of the hinge pins. The Lewmar part # 360270990, West Marine/Port Supply # 10126837. The hinge is called a "Friction Lever" and goes for $30 if you or someone you know has a Port Supply account.

Replacement sheaves for Offshore Spars std rig
Looking over the 9 year-old masthead, mast base and boom sheaves on the boat shows they are shot from UV/wear. Most of them are not even round, they are some kind of random ellipse. The originals were 3" OD, 0.5" wide with a 0.5" bore, but most of Bacchagato's are worn down to 2.5-2.7...

While Bacchagato has a mast-mounted reflector up high, I thought this was an interesting dual-purpose item: http://www.radarflag.com/facts.cfm

Re: WTS: Windhunter hoist-in-the-rigging wind generator $150 obo
We have never used the Windhunter. I have the manual and the original owner's rigging instructions for it, but I'd have to track down Mr. Martin (1st owner) for performance data. The second owner never cruised the boat, and he didn't pass along any meaningful data on the wind gen... sorry. The unit ...
