Re: Mast Splice
Hi Brendan, It may be the tall rig. Admittedly, between my lack of expertise and the PO sailing in the great beyond, my due diligence is a tad blurry. Hence, my appearance on this forum. I will definitely know for sure within the next six months(or so). At this point, I am confident that PDQ designe...

Beautifully done!!
It clearly depicts the curvaceousness Columbus tried to convey to the reigning heads of Europe back in the day. No flat earth concept for sailors, no way!
Pure inspiration!!

Thanks Sam!!
It was a hi-res piccy. Hopefully I'll get a couple of replies that say "Yep, that's what mine looks like! We went through the Queen's Birthday Storm frontwards and backwards without an issue!! Huzzahhhh!!"

Re: Mast Splice
Thanks Henry, that is reassuring.
I wasn't able to upload the pic as a jpg. The system allowed me to load it as a pdf though. Normally AdobeReader will open it.
Did the image display for anyone?

Usurper to Genuine
Howdy folks! There I was, just minding my own business, when out of the briny blue came Providence! She dropped something in my lap that I could not ignore. This is not like how a foul sea-bird might ruin your freshly polished hard-top bimini. Oh no, quite the opposite actually. Believe it or not, a...

Mast Splice
Hi folks! I've got a contract on the 2000 36 Classic in Corpus. :D It is pending a satisfactory survey. One thing I had not seen before (which includes nearly everything sailboaty :P ) is a mast joined as depicted in the attached pic. This joint is about four feet up from the step. Is this normal? T...

Sandy,
Thank you for your advice and reassurance on the build quality. I'll try to keep that in mind for the next deal.
Thanks again,
Joe Mc

Re: Stress Cracks and Surveyor in Brunswick, Ga
Drew, Thanks for clearing that up for me. Un-chamfered holes makes sense as the root cause of the cracks I've seen. I have not gotten to survey yet. I was trying to do a bit of due diligence before slapping down the money for the survey. I feel better about the structural integrity of that issue. No...

Re: Stress Cracks and Surveyor in Brunswick, Ga
Tom, Yep, that was fun. Thanks for taking a look at those pix. I am feeling more at ease about the stress cracks. But, they're still ugly even if there is no deeper problem as we discussed earlier on the phone. This part is not just for Tom. Open to all. Maybe I should post it elsewhere in the forum...

Re: Stress Cracks and Surveyor in Brunswick, Ga
So, a picture is developing such that the tracks may be an aftermarket add-on. Here is my analogy: I can buy a brand spanking new 2013 Chevy Impala SS. I can order $15000 worth of bolt-on cool stuff that would make it look and sound more like a real race car, like the one that won the 500 last week....
