Re: Replacement Northern Lights Generator

Doug, things have moved fast since I posted earlier this week. As of late this afternoon a new NL 6kw generator is installed and working on His Idea. This was thanks to the local supplier having a unit in stock (not that common these days I’m told), along with a very competent and efficient diesel m...

Replacement Northern Lights Generator

Our PDQ 34 is a 2007 model (hull 111). We learned today that our original 5kw Northern Lights generator needs replacement or a rebuild because of seawater damage within the block (the #3 exhaust valve appears to be the culprit, cause currently unknown). A major local diesel outfit has a new 6kw NL g...

Re: Bridge cushion dimensions

Problem resolved - over the weekend our wayward cushion was found at our marina and returned to us. Fortunately, after a good clean, it's still usable. No need for a replacement after all 8).

Bridge cushion dimensions

It appears one of our bridge cushions went astray (a mystery) during winterization this year. Probably a longshot, but would anyone have a dimensional diagram for the cushion that sits above the propane tank locker (i.e. adjacent to the helm seat, port side)? Also, does anyone know the brand of viny...

Re: Weema water tank guage

Hey James,

Thanks for the quick response and advice. I'll give that a try - or should I say I'll try to entice someone else to give it a try  !

Hope alls well with you too.

Cheers,

John

Weema water tank guage

It appears our water tank guage is beginning to get 'sticky', i.e. when I recently drained the water tank for winterization the guage 'stuck' at 3/4 full until the tank was virtually empty, then it corrected itself. I've successfully fixed a sticky holding tank monitor by removing and cleaning it. I...

Re: FUEL ECONOMY 11O ENGINES

Hi Mark, It's interesting to hear your mileage is similar to ours, as there are not many 110 equipped PDQ's around. For our fast cruise we typically run at 2600 RPM, which is about 80% of the rated maximum for the 110's. This seems to be a good sweet spot for our engines. Happy cruising! John 604-77...

Re: FUEL ECONOMY 11O ENGINES

Hi Mark, This is a bit late, but hopefully of interest. We've put about 1500 hours on our 110's over the past 11 years, and have averaged 3.0+ statute miles to the US gallon over that period. This covers a variety of speeds (including idling periods), but the majority has been at a 'fast cruise' of ...

Re: Power Issue

Same as what Dwayne said for us too. We only power the AC appliances with either shore power or generator, never off the inverter. So far - knock on wood - the original Prosine inverter is still doing the job for us.

Re: Lightweight Dinghy

Alan, if decent power combined with lighter weight is part of what you're looking for, have a look at the Suzuki line. I believe their four-strokes are the lightest on the market in the 8-20 hp range. We use a DF15A on our 9'6" Highfield and find it performs very well - it's easy to get the two...

Re: Lightweight Dinghy

Three years ago we bought a new tender, a Highfield CL 290 aluminum rib with bow locker. We've been very pleased with the design features, ride, and apparent quality of manufacture. Although our particular model weighs in at over 100lbs, I note that their ultralight UL 290 weighs in at only 86lbs. T...

Re: Refinishing Salon Table

Hi Mac, Unfortunately I don't have a definitive answer on the original finish. Here's the story from James Power: There were a few different sub contractors that applied the finish to the woodwork over the years. Not sure what products they used but I would guess possibly a lacquer, and it looks lik...

Re: Refinishing Salon Table

Thanks Thinwater. Interestingly we don't seem to have much evidence of fading elsewhere. I think this is because the boat came equipped with very good interior window coverings everywhere, and we keep them closed when we're not on the boat. We should have used the accordion blinds on the forward win...
