Re: stern light wiring
Sorry for taking so long to respond but just saw your posting question. If you have not already found out there is a hole for wiring at the base of the davit mount. If you just drill up between the two mounting bolts you should hit it perfectly. I think the hole must be about 1.5" in diameter. ...

Northern Lights exhaust elbow
I just finished writing a post on the Yanmar exhaust elbow, but the same thing holds true for the Northern Lights generator. The damage here from a leaking elbow can be much more extensive as the windings for the unit can be affected and the cost to remove and rebuild is significant. New stainless s...

Yanmar 75hp and 100hp exhaust elbow
Hello to all, A word of caution to all 75hp and 100hp owners. As engines age there is one component at is due to fail...the exhaust elbow... The exhaust elbow on all engines will fail at some point due to corrosion. A visual inspection on a regular basis will indicate a failure that will progress ra...

Nova Kool refrigerators
Please note that if you replace the original Nova Kool refrigerator with a new unit there may be a problem with overheating of the compressor. In the new units they have stopped placing vents in the front of the unit just over the freezer door. It would appear that without these vents there is not a...

Re: Shaft vibration
Hello to all, I thought it might be time to provide a "recap" on this subject. Shaft vibration has been an issue on some PDQ 34's and in almost every case it has been traced back to engine mis-alignment. In a few instances it actually originated at the factory where they did not do a good ...

Re: Tme for a new dinghy
Hello Jimmy, We just replaced our old dinghy with a AB 9' Ultra Lite (aluminum bottom) with a 15 hp 2 stroke (bought in Bahamas) and it is the best dinghy we have ever had on the PDQ. Fits perfectly and is try easy to lift and launch. A smaller motor like a 6hp 2 stroke might be a better choice and ...

Re: Maserator pump
To answer your question the outlet is under the head, you will find a 1.5" thru hull shut off there but that is seldom the problem. The standard macerator pumps have been a continuing problem on all boats. The quality of the pumps is poor and the failure rate is high. The recommendation to conv...

LEXAN Windscreens
Hi Folks, Just a quick update on the above subject. As we all know, these windscreens have a limited life (at least in terms of looks) due to UV damage. I have shopped around in this area and the best I could do to get new units made was $225 per side. I am having a batch of them made and if anyone ...

Re: Rust in condensation pan
Hi Folks, This is a problem that we will all face sooner or later as the design and materials used in the Cruisair units was less than ideal. Beth Simkins is attempting to establish a relationship with the Cruisair folks so that we can do a bulk purchase of the new SS pans (plastic ones will not fit...

Solar panels
Hi Folks, This summer I decided to add a couple of solar panels so that when at anchor we could minimize running the generator. The results have been outstanding and I thought I should share the details. I installed two Kyrocera 135W panels over the aft deck bimini with a Prostar 30A controller. At ...

Bent shafts
OK....I'm going to share a "hot issue" on the shafts used on the PDQ 34. Recently we have encountered two boats with both shafts bent. A 2004 and a 2005 boat.In all four cases the "bend" was very similar in magnitude and location. As you all know from previous posts, shaft alignm...

Re: transmission oil cooler?
Hi John, Just saw you roost on this subject. All the oil coolers were supplied with the engines by Yanmar of Canada. Since the original supplier is no longer in business it is hard to say if they were unique or not. I suspect that it was just a standard yanmar part but one that certainly can be sour...
