Re: Replaced the water heater
A second for James' suggestion. We placed starboard under our heater a few years ago when we observed the exterior was starting to rust. This has significantly slowed the deterioration process.

Re: Transmission Maintenance Schedule
Hi Mac, We had the transmission fluid and filters replaced last year, and have been doing it about every 2 years since we purchased the boat. I believe the ZF manual I have says every 1000 hours. I also heard from Tri-County when I purchased the parts in Bellingham (cheaper than in Vancouver) that i...

Re: Replaced the water heater
Thanks for sharing your experience Duane. My heater will also need to be replaced soon and I was interested to hear it was not too difficult a job. Can you share what it cost to purchase the replacement Kuuma unit?

Re: Prop pitch for 110hp engines
Larry,
We have the 110 hp Yanmar diesels (4JH4-HTE) on His Idea. Our props - on the boat since new in 2007 - are 17 x 17 4-bladed 'Hi-Torq'.
Cheers,
John

Re: Anchor Rode Options
Mac, I'm definitely no expert, however research and reading I've done over the years suggests that catamarans are designed for lighter weight and perform better when not loaded down with too much stuff (my experience has also been different than yours - I find that His Idea rides and performs better...

Re: Anchor Rode Options
Most marine outlets in Vancouver have them available as singles. I bought a couple so I would have a spare just in case.

Yes, we use the same windlass you do Mac, and the split link has worked just fine - never a problem running through the gypsy.

Re: Anchor Rode Options
Mac, I went with the Crosby G335 (http://www.thecrosbygroup.com/products/rigging-components/links/crosby-335-galvanized-missing-link-replacement-links/). Although a split link will not be as strong as a complete forged link (this is the focus of most of the 'con' opinions out there), what convinced ...

Re: LP Gas Hose
Mac, Good to hear the pictures were of help. Yes, the last three show the front and back of the fitting, which is identical to what you have for the transom shower head. As an aside, I have fashioned additional 'rings' out of starboard to cover the front of the fittings here and on the transom. I di...

Re: Anchor Rode Options
Mac, Last year I spliced in 100' of additional 5/16" chain to provide us the capacity to handle the deeper anchorages and bigger tides we expected on our trip to SE Alaska. This gave me 150' of chain and about 125' of 5/8" rode. This was a compromise between not adding too much weight whil...

Re: LP Gas Hose
Mac, I was on my way to the boat today and took the following pictures. The first two pictures show the hose going through the aft bulkhead of the tank storage area and routed to the adjacent storage compartment at the rear, however I'm sure you could go from a hookup at the left tank directly throu...

Re: LP Gas Hose
Mac, Our BBQ set up is configured very similar to the way you envision (the hose connection at the tank shares the main regulator and solenoid, but this is not an issue for you). I believe this was done at the factory for the original owner. I can take pictures of how the hose is routed, etc. the ne...

Re: Engine overheating
Richard, Sorry for the delay in responding. We've just returned from an extended cruise (Alaska) and haven't been on the Forum for a couple of months. It seems you had the same issue we did, and the information you received from Yanmar appears consistent with the HE reinstallation we made. Since thi...
