Lightening Protection
I recently read a suggestion for providing lightening protection: to wit - get a pair of high quality automotive jumper cables. When a thunderstorm appears, attach one end to the stainless mast and throw the other end overboard. Has anyone had experience with this or any other way of protecting the ...

Contact at PDQ
We have had a couple of issues on MV/34-51 the last few months as well as many questions that arose because of a Power Squadron course on marine electronics I took. I emailed all questions to Chris. He was superb in the quickness of his responses and his follow up. He even called me a couple of time...

Transmission Fitting Cotter Pins
A heads up. Two weeks ago we lost control of the port transmission on MV/34-51 due to an improperly intalled cotter pin which holds the barrel bolt which connects the transmission shifitng lever to the transmission control cable. The pin was installed with both wings folded in the same direction and...

Pounding
We enjoyed about 3 hours of 6 to 8s, with some 8 to 10s, when crossing Lake Erie. The waves were very steep and close together. The MV/34 did pound if we tried to take the seas head on, but did much better when we angled across the waves, rolling one sponson over the crest followed by the other. Sti...

75 v. 100 engines
We have the 100s and are glad we do. Crossing Lake Erie that extra power was a godsend in dealing with the waves. Yes, we do run faster at times because we can, but sometimes, that extra speed is very useful, such as when trying to make a bridge opening or a lock getting ready to close. Saved us wai...

Mile per tank
Based on our averages over the last 2,500 miles, running at 18 mph with 100 horse engines, we could go about 360 miles with a 20% reserve.

Leakage
We experienced the same thing crossing Erie in 6 to 8s (occasionally higher) in both forward compartments. We have hull 51. Haven't been in any other significant seas so don't know if problems is on-going. Haven't noticed leakage from rain, however.

Princess Stove
Read your post on the stove quitting with interest. Recently, our stove has taken forever to light, usually 5 - 10 minutes of cranking. Could this be a regulator problem also? The boat is only 4 1/2 months old.
Thanks

Courtesy Lights
Has anyone installed outdoor courtesy lihts around the under edge of the bonnet or any where else. Here in Tennessee we are rather primitive and cannot count on dock lights, etc. We have considered running a string of rope lights under the overhang, plugged in to the 100V on the fly bridge. Any othe...

Window Coverings
We chose outside window coverings that snap on, but do allow some light to enter. The PDQ dealer Trawlers Midwest had them made for us. Very nice clean look.
