The Yamaha 9.9 has two plastic intake screens located on each side of the lower unit just below the anti-cavitation plate. Suggest you pull the hose off the plastic discharge fitting first and run the engine to check for water flow from the hose.

Capthank,

I have the printed version of the Wolter manual. I could copy it and mail it if you wish. Need a mailing address.

Mike Martin on Distant Music had a similar problem. We also had voltage at the starter. It turned out to be a corroded connection of the battery wire at the circuit breaker, which in his boat was mounted in the engine well, a most corrosive environment. You might also check connections at the start ...

Kevin Another quick thought; Check all the fuel hose connections including the connection at the motor. A loose connection will allow air to be sucked in. Also the fuel hose primer bulbs are notorious for causing problems as they have check valves which malfunction. You might consider a replacement ...

Kevin, CDI is abbreviation for Capacitive Discharge Ignition. It is the black box on the port side of the motor about the size of a cigarette box with many wires coming out of it. It controls the spark to both cylinders and often malfunctions causing untold grief. It is a bit of a job to replace but...

Our old PDQ36 gasoline boat used to do the same. Removing the cockpit floor (deck?) I discovered the long vent hose had a sag in it forming a fuel trap which prevented proper venting. I made up several plastic supports and glued them under the vent hose to the top of the aluminum tank so the hose ge...

Hi Roger,

I have the same windlass and lousy Fracmo motor. The magnets came un-glued in mine and I bought a new motor ($500).
I still have the old motor. I can check to see if the brushes in the old motor are still usable.
I would not be able to check for about week.

My 2 Cents,
CDI's sometimes cause weird stuff like you describe.

Hi Aura & Vernon, We traveled often with the Martins on Distant Music and look forward to meeting you. Allezcat is tied up behind our house in Punta Gorda. There is ample space to tie up for a visit if you get to the West coast and several PDQ owners in the area. Welcome to the PDQ clan. Chet &a...

I believe if you switch off the engine output when it is running that some very high voltages would be induced in the stator coils resulting in arcing and damage to the stator.

Sam,
You are exactly correct in your calculations.
It is very difficult to find a 140W 12DC load which is why I use an AC desklamp with a 150W bulb plugged into the AC outlet powered thru the inverter. It works great.

I have about five Wolters in various conditions. If someone needs parts to rebuild one please let me know. The problem with some of these units was the flow control switch. If it stuck in the off position, the unit would not light. If it stuck in on position the unit would boil out all the water and...

Hi Sam, As long as the batteries are NOT fully charged there is no problem. If they are fully charged, (like after being plugged in at a dock) you will see the voltage go to 15, 16, 17 .... unless you add load. Gels should never be charged over 14.2V. A wet cell battery will begin to gas when overch...
