Re: Blocking for PDQ 32 LRC
Follow the manual. The hull above the waterline is a cored sandwich, and if you put jackstands on the hulls above the waterline, you can get deformations in the hull. On a mono, the stands are usually placed below the waterline where the hull is solid. When I was looking at PDQs, one of them I looke...

Re: PDQ32+
Looks nice. I'm thinking of having it done on my new 32 LRC. I'm thinking that with the extra weight in the LRC this would be even more of a benefit. Amytom, was yours a DIY or did you have it done? I have zero experience with fiberglass and will need to find someone in Florida to do it. Any recomm...

Re: Replacing Fixed Windows
Hi Drew, Although I'm not replacing the portlights now, I am interested in using Dow 795 to adhere the existing portlights. This article by Don Casey in Sail Magazine describes a method using Dow 795 and VHB tape: http://www.sailmagazine.com/diy/maintenance/replacing-fixed-portlights/ I have not ye...

Re: Replacing Fixed Windows
Following up on my other post here: http://www.pdqforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2968&p=11897&hilit=port+sealant#p11897 The idea of the spacers is to prevent the goop (a/k/a Dow Corning 795, and nothing else!) from squeezing out too much when you mount the acrylic window to the fiberglas...

Re: Headroom on 32?
I'm almost 6'4 and have no problems with headroom in the hulls in our 32. We leave the hatch open except when it is raining. With the hatch closed you have to duck, but it's only for a moment as you are either sitting in the salon or going into the hulls. The most important areas are the galley and ...

Re: Radar Installation
The radar dome on ours is mounted on the mast about 2/3rd the way up, just above the spreader. Don't need to worry about a pole or transmissions.

Re: suggestions for improving winter ventilation
A de-humidifier might be the best bet if you leave your boat plugged in and powered. I don't think it would be an option when you are on battery power. I think you best bet if you don't want to be plugged in all the time is are to install a couple solar vents to keep the air circulating. Adding one ...

Re: Mast Weight
Sorry I can't give you an exact weight, but the aluminum mast weighs less than you might think. We had to take the mast off our old 35 hunter, which at 55' above waterline is probably longer than the one on the PDQ. Once it was on the ground, two people could carry the mast without too much trouble.

Re: Anyone install a small diesel genset in the Altair?
As an alternative to A/C, I wired two Caframo fans into each stateroom at the head (interior) wall covering, outside of the reading lights. I ran the wire from the previously installed fan at the foot of the bed through the back of the boat and lockers, then through the compartment holding the fuel ...

Re: Preparing surface for new salon lexan windows
I had a couple cockpit front dodger snap holder screws pull out. I took a paperclip and bent an "L" shape in it, and used it to smear a generous layer of marine-tex on the inside of fiberglass around the screw hole, and then then hole itself to reduce the diameter. Once dry I drilled out t...

Re: Solar panels on hard top PDQ 32
I'm planning on doing the same. The issue is whether you have a problem partially covering up the openings in the hard top. Do you have the originally mounted panels mounted athwartship at the aft part of the hard top"? If you don't, you'll be able to mount them there. If you do, then you'll pr...

Re: Anchoring
I purchased a 25 lb Mantus about a year ago as the day-to-day anchor on the starboard side with the windlass. I have a fortress Fx-23 mounted on the port side as a backup. It is only a 15lb anchor, but has significantly bigger flukes than the Mantus. I have an FX-37 as extra storm anchor. The 25 lb ...
