Stators and CDIs

How many of us have had to replace stators and CDIs and how long do they seem to last? Do stators fail due to corrosion? They do get hot up there on the top of the engine. Add in a little salty air and it would seem a perfect breeding ground for rust. What about CDIs? Do they fail often? How long do...

Re: New Engine purchase

Thanks for the feedback. Do you feel that corrosion or water ingress will pose a problem with the engine mount plate that hanging down almost to the waterline? I presume that what you are mentioning is the actual mechanical portion of the mount, not the motor that tilts the engine? I am not 100% sur...

New Engine purchase

Hi Folks I am preparing to order two new Yamaha 9.9's (you know, the ones that actually fit the boat!) I have an older (1992) 36. I have some questions: Does anyone know how long the starboard and port throttle/shifter cables and wiring harnesses need to be? I am not sure what length to order and th...

Re: Hatch Hinges

The Bomar port light hatch hinges (the ports in the staterooms, head and aft cabin) are prone to wear. Specifically, inside of each hinge there is a very cheap plastic piece with two tiny springy bits that break off. When they break the hatch will no longer stay up on it's own.

Re: water in keel

The keel is divided into three sections. You will need to drain it in the front, middle and stern if there is water in there.

Re: Head Replacement

If you are going to cruise outside of the USA, the Jabsco is probably the best bet.

You will have to pay PST and GST on the purchase price as soon as the boat arrives in Canada.

Re: PDQ 36 Electric Outboard Project: Upgrade

(Hull 12) had a diesel engine in one hull and a Yamaha 9.9 in the other.
There was no bow thrust in the boat in 95, of that I am certain!

Re: Salon Windows

I looked online (years ago) for 1/16" Butyl tape and back then found nothing. I dropped in on a local glazier and asked what they had. The owner sold me a roll of 1/16" thick black butyl tape that was large enough to rebed all four Bomar hatches with enough left over to do the job again so...
