Re: Catch 22 on the Chesapeake
Welcome aboard,
We're in Edgewater not too far from Eric and Bonnie - Linda and I made the jump to a cat from a 44' wooden ketch - we're still having trouble with falling off into irons... Just takes some getting used to and breaking old habits.

Re: "Buggy" Fuel Problem
II the Max has a single Racor 100 series filter in the Port locker closest to where the fuel line goes to the motor in the hull, our Yanmar diesel is set under a pilot berth in the port hull - about the same location as the head in the STBD hull. There is plenty of room in the compartment, my soluti...

Re: "Buggy" Fuel Problem
Jeez, I was hoping someone had a whiz-bang answer like pour some "new and improved super Dezo-Cleano" and all would be good as new... Guess not - I'm thinking the sacrificial larger Raycor will at least let me run long enough to get the fuel down enough to drain it and do a good cle...

Re: Plexiglass fracturing
Not sure where you are located - as I mentioned in the earlier post Annapolis Maritime Plastics made mine for me. I took them the old window to use a template for the new ones. I drilled my own holes because some of mine were stripped out and I relocated them. I had a couple extras made for spares a...

"Buggy" Fuel Problem
With the house project underway we haven't gone through the usual 3 or 4 tanks of fuel per season. Last year we ran the boat about 3 hours total and in my renovation tunnel vision forgot to put stabilizer in when we winterized. II the Max only has the single inboard in the Port hull. Status: Its a Y...

Re: 44 mainsail drop
We have the stock PDQ 36 classic set up (not the LR Cruising mast), and other than the occasional batten hanging up in the lazy jacks the sail comes down fairly easy.

Re: Zincs - sheered bolts off:(
Mike, Have had similar issues with dis-similar metals and salt water corrosion. First off, it's most likely going to be a PIA - especially with the limited access you have. The positive is that if the bolt broke off clean when you were installing it then it's not frozen in place (yet...) the neck of...

Re: How narrow can a slip be and be OK?
We have a PDQ 36 and our beam is about 18' 3" - we had a slip for a while on a floating dock that was 18' 7" wide - don't ask me how but we always made it in. Only issue was that there was really no room for fenders. We went with the flat foam style and hung them on the cleats. If there wa...

Re: Trying hard not to break our boat, but...
Mike, Another option might be to make the sleeve a little longer add about 1" around the post so that it can't pop out when the boat flexes. It looks to me like the top part is thick enough to add on to. I would think that 1"x1" hardwood would work to make an extension "frame&quo...

Re: Sailing without a motor
Eric said the magic word - "mooring ball" - that's not trying to get back into a tight slip - say along the channel of Herrington Harbor North (towards the bridge), or the breakwater and dog leg to Cole's Point on the Potomac...

Re: Has anyone modified the nav-station for a seat?
It appears that your set-up is far different from what we had. Perhaps a some sort of a slide out from the pilot berth with support legs would work. That's kind of what I've been thinking as I have another year of classes - some type of sliding frame that mounts on the bench seat. The slide out tab...

Re: Has anyone modified the nav-station for a seat?
We a similar pilot berth\bench combination with storage underneath - but after a few hours working leaning from the bench to the Nav-station table takes a toll. I'll get a better picture with the table top open - these shots only give an idea of the bench (STBD pilot berth)

Has anyone modified the nav-station for a seat?
I've been doing a fair amount of studying on board lately and my back is taking a beating from hunching over the pull down nav station desk. II the Max is a 1991 and under the STBD pilot berth (Nav-station bench) the area is open storage. I'm hesitant to do a major modifcation for this. I was wonder...

Re: Sailing without a motor
Reality Check... When we bought II the Max (formerly Buckaroo) it had a single diesel in the Port hull - until you were making a few knots it was an absolute nightmare to maneuver in tight places. I first added a bass boat trolling motor to the Stbd. hull - used a pivoting antenna mount so we could ...
