Re: Thelma and Louise Up To No Good

Well....

Nothing was broken. I pulled and checked all sorts of gadgetry. I put it back together. The she-devil cranked right up. Corrosion I guess, like her heart! She's back in the engine bay planning her next move.

Many thanks to the Doghouse Clan for lending me their best mechanic.

Re: ATN Topclimber Static Line and Spare Halyard or Sheet

Thanks TW!

Good call on the harness. I probably wouldn't fit in a little, or even medium wall harness. The no-cheesecake diet is helping though

Re: Thelma and Louise Up To No Good

I know there is a switch inside the throttle mechanism. I've tested both sets, port and starboard, and both function. Might there be another switch inside the engine? Oh, I'm also going to start it by rope (I know, Neanderthal, right?) just to show the Admiral that we're full of... safety..redundanc...

Re: Thelma and Louise Up To No Good

Five days later, Louise is still running fine. But... THAT CURSED Thelma won't start!! She is the older sister, a 2002 purchased in Belize. I pulled and cleaned her carb again today to help eradicate a rough and stalling idle condition. She was running fine too, after re-installing the carb. I shut ...

Re: Pulling the #%$@ Dipstick

Six hour cruise yesterday...got boarded by the Coasties..nice visit...they gave me a brand spanking new 'no dumping' sticker... Fai...

Pulling the #%$@ Dipstick

Somebody has a gadget that makes the dipstick pulling not an injurious affair!!! Who is it?? I know, who pulls the dipstick?? For those of you that do check the oil religiously (or secularly, if you prefer), snatching it out of its hidey hole can be a knuckle buster and/or a nail bender, unless you'...

Running Rigging Routing PDQ36

Hi Folks, I put this in the General Forum hoping to get some more feedback. I will post pics of my collection of hardware, some of which goes unused at the moment. I am interested in what works for you on these fine sailing machines. I find the manual lacking in this department. Plus, the manual seg...

Re: ATN Topclimber Static Line and Spare Halyard or Sheet

Is this type of line good enough, lacking, or overkill for this purpose? http://www.defender.com/product3.jsp?path=-1|2078767|2079473|2079475&id=36657 Checking page 39 in the PDQ36 manual, there are no 7/16" lines mentioned. Can a 7/16" sub for a 1/2" in a pinch...or is that what ...

Re: Thelma and Louise Up To No Good

Success! She started right up. I lapped the hell out of that miserable valve after sticking it in cordless drill while gently deburring it with various abrasives with a Dremel. The valve was spinning and the Dremel was going to town. It's not perfect, but better than it was. I'll give it a few days....

Re: ATN Topclimber Static Line and Spare Halyard or Sheet

Marc, I guess the wear and tear from being rigged all the time is not a significant factor (ten years of happy ups and downs) and there is perhaps a spare set of pulleys too use? I can sure see the utility of climbing up the front too. How often do you go up the mast? TW, Thanks for the clarificatio...

Here is what I expect is the culprit of our latest misfortune: Cyl 1 Intake Top small.jpg Cyl 1 Intake Side small.jpg It is pitted and otherwise nasty, but you should have seen it when I first pulled it out. If I wouldn't have to wait another two weeks for delivery of a new one...I may end up orderi...

Classic Port Engine Battery Setup

Good Morning Y'all, Here are some pics of the existing wires for the port battery setup...maybe. There are the two 6 AWG wires that attach to the Blue Sea 7100 50 amp breaker. Blue Sea 7100 Port Salon Crossway Cabinet small.jpg Laying on the bottom of that Port cabinet is this 4 AWG wire labeled 'Po...

Re: ATN Topclimber Static Line and Spare Halyard or Sheet

Okay TW, I recognize you as the resident expert on things ascending and descending, among many other things(I got my first dosage of Biobor EB this weekend :P ) Wait a minute while I further process the info.... With this version of the Topclimber, you haul your static line to the masthead with the ...
