Re: Power Tilt
Before going to power-tilt, I put a 3:1 hoist on the engine, and a second line from the engine, forward through the nacelle drain and up to a clam cleat at the base of the captain's seats. I tied a pair of Harken balls on the bitter ends to make them easier to hold. And then bought engines with powe...

Re: Honda 15
Our PDQs are displacement hulls. They do not plane. The speed advantage comes from having narrow beams, and works fine to a point, but we still hit the wall, requiring more and more power to go less and less faster. If we can occasionally sail at 12 knots sustained, why can't we motor at the same sp...

Re: Honda 15
I have commented here before about alternate engines for PDQs, Seawinds, Geminis and Maine Cats. I will again. Here are some facts to consider: Four stroke engines have a power curve (very similar among all the engines in this category) that peaks at the designated maximum operating RPM, and manufac...

Re: Honda 15
I've looked at the Torqedo's pretty hard. It's perfectly do-able, provides some interesting advantages, but will cost* as much as five Yamaha 9.9 High Thrust engines, filters, oil and parts for 2000 hours, allowing for inflation. And that does not include a generator which would be necessary if you ...

Re: Power Tilt
Here's another two cents: It appears that the CMC Cook Mfg PT-35 Tilt & Trim raises the engine 2 1/2" to 3 1/2" higher in the engine well, which may bump up the engine hatch. This happens because their hinge pin is tha much lower than the engine's. And for yet another two cents it look...

Re: Bracket pivot dissassembly
My PDQ Mentors, the Bartholets led a line from the engine lower units forward under the bridge deck and aft to a convenient cleat. Not elegant, but perfectly functional.

Re: Just bought a PDQ 32 Altair (Hull 32-029)
Welcome aboard! PDQs are a rare commodity on the West Coast, but you will find a wealth of good (and not so good) advice here. Don't hesitate to ask any questions that come up as you get intimate with your 32. You will find it is a durable, fine sailing choice that is easy to maintain, with very few...

Both boats fine, but I was shocked to see the zincs on Siesta's saildrive. One isn't even six months old and needs replacement.

Roll Call: how well did you survive Irene
I hauled both cats becasue I lost my Simpson 34 in Isabel. I haven't checked either one yet this morning, but I will. How well did your PDQ survive Irene?

Re: Ease to walk around on top of the cat
I discourage people from trying to walk on the lower level. It is safer and more secure to step up on the cabin top. You can hold onto the bimini, then the shrouds and finally the mast. I would have to ask Dream Catcher about rigging jack lines for a harness in rough conditions. The cabin top slopes...

Re: Need Replacement Yamaha Outboards
I re-engined Page 83, a 1993 PDQ 36 with new Yamaha High Trust Eights, with the huge bracket for electric trim and tilt. Waves do hit the lower motor mounts, but I take care of them. I am very pleased with the performance. It was necessary to trim the sides of the transom area of the engine nacelles...
