It is interesting that the malaria message has been on the CDC site (http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/contentMalariaBahamas07.aspx) since August 23rd and the outbreak was in July. That's a long time with no additional cases reported.

Are you sure you don't mean the one that goes inside the chair mount and outside the post? I have gone through several myself. My post also has a bushing that creates a plastic lip over the exposed metal edge of the post. That way the plastic ridge from the seat rides on the plastic rim.

Seat post bushing

The post that supports our seat has a bushing that fits inside the seat post. It has a lip covering the exposed metal edge of the post. Although the insert that goes into to seat and goes over the post is available at marine stores, the bushing inside the post is not. Has anyone found a source for t...

Installing the new 9.9 Yamaha - success!!!

I just finished installing the new 9.9's in hull #80. Thanks to Chris (s/v Cat Tales) and the detailed info he provided when he documented his installation, mine went very well. The new US engines were much less than the Canadian models that several other owners have used to minimize the installatio...

The reception and transmitting are fine. My wife was asked to be Thursdat's Net Control on the CruiseHeimers Net (0830 on 8152 summer) because of the excellent signal and her excellent radio manner. We also use the SSB for e-mail throughout the winter in the Bahamas with no problem. It seems to be a...

We installed an SSB with no problem. A dynaplate was installed in the starboard hull just behind the thru-hulls for the depth/speed. This is the only area where we had easy access to the trru-bolt to attach the foil. The foil was fished back to the starboard lazerette where the tuner is located. I c...

I did the switch to the new design but was charged $150. I have to say that the ONLY difference seems to be the self ignitor. I used the original unit year-round and never had to replace the batteries. Next time, I'll probably go back to the battery powered unit and save a few dollars.

Not so watertight compartments

Our PDQ36 (Hull 80) has a clear inspection plate on the wall of the port/aft water-tight compartment. The inspection plate was installed over the carpet with short screws and no sealant. Needless to say, when the compartment contained water (that's another older story), it leaked into the aft workro...
