Hi Brendan, Allezcat's main halyard also gets very difficult to raise the last foot of travel. I have traced it to the thick eyesplice in the double braid for the shackle which jams in the small sheave groove at the masthead. Not sure how to solve this other than have the sail cut shorter, which I d...

Hi Sam & Gina, I questioned Simon Slater some years ago about this and I believe he said the rake should be 6-8 inches. I think mine is about 6 but it also has a lot of pressure on the mast heel compressing the deck some. My rigger tuned the mast with quite a bit of forward "bow" by te...

Congratulations Brendan and welcome to the PDQ owners. Please join the PDQ Owners Assoc to keep tuned in to whats going on amongst owners. I'm no authority on bending sails and have probably made most every mistake one can make so here it goes. First fasten the jib tack with a shackle. Before fittin...

Ed, We use a 35#Delta on 150ft of 5/16 HT chain as primary in the Bahamas. Backups are a 35# CQR with 40ft of 3/8 chain and 150 ft of rope plus a Fortress 23 with 20ft of chain and 150 ft rope. The Fortress is great when deploying from a dinghy. I use a 1/2" twisted nylon rope bridle with a sta...

Most of the PDQ owners I know have opted for the EU2000i. Of course it depends on the loads you intend to power. For instance, I have a Freedom 1000 Inverter/Charger which puts out 50amps at 14 volts when charging. This load alone is 700Watts so if you add anything else you are over the limit of the...

Allezcat, Hull#10, has an older style mast. With winds above 15Kts from the side (particularly at a dock), the mast "pumps" very noticeably. Sighting up the mast when this is happening reveals the center section of the mast moving side to side. The side stays are as tight as I dare make th...

There is no voltage adjustment or regulation on the Y9.9. It is a permanent magnet alternator with diode bridge rectifier and will boil the electrolyte in a charged wet cell or ruin a charged gel cell unless the output is diverted to a load (about 70Watts per engine). I use a 150watt bulb in a lamp ...

Allezcat is on its 3rd set of Yamaha outboards. They have reliably taken us up the East Coast twice, through the Great Lakes, and 7 times to the Bahama Islands. The boat was designed with outboards and the diesels definitely compromise sailing performance, both from a weight and drag standpoint. The...

Hi Wake-Up new owner, Welcome to the PDQ owners. There is a great Owners Assoc you should consider joining. I am the owner that was bidding against you at the auction. From what I saw, the hole could easily be repaired by a "competent" experienced person. Keep in mind the hull is solid gla...

Thanks Roger,
Evidently the fresh water supply exceeds the engines appetite for cooling water and the excess flows out the bottom of the engine blocking the seawater.

Roger,

What keeps the engine from sucking saltwater in when using the flush ports?

Mike, I find it almost immpossible to flush these engines after use unless you want to get into the water under the boat to put the "C-clamps" on the lower units and hook them to a hose. I did see one interesting article recently which I intend to try. The writer took a large plastic waste...

Hi Mike, Welcome tto the PDQ clan. I carry four 10" fenders. I like the kind you can tie a line on each end so you can hang the fender horizontal, under the rail, or vertical. Over the last ten years, I have used 1/2" twisted nylon lines and found them perfectly adequate. I prefer the twis...

Josh,
We have an old PDQ36 hull#10 with divided nets, walkway up the center.
The nets were made by the sailmaker - Triton Sails located in Mississauga near Toronto. They just made us a new set last year at a very reasonable price. Contact Ron at 905-891-8166

We use a Spectra Ventura 150 the same as the Fords. The company support has been good. It makes about 7GPH using about 10amp/hrs. I also installed a Zeta guard by Spectra. This electrically charges the feedwater eliminating the need to ever pickle the unit.
