Re: Sliding Door Leak

Here's another solution... We love our companionway dodger. Original design was by Paul Gooding of Horizons , execution was by G & G Canvas of Stuart, FL. It's also great for providing ventilation on those warm, rainy days in Florida and the Bahamas. Henry - in Jensen Beach, FL - http://www.sno...

Re: Nova Kool Fridge - low voltage cut-out

Hello J & D, The first sign of something amiss was some dripping from the cooling plates, normally they stay solidly frozen (both freezer and cooler) until defrosted. When I checked our little fridge thermometer, it was up above the "normal" zone - up close to 50°, I think. When worki...

Nova Kool Fridge - low voltage cut-out

We noticed recently - now that we're down in the Bahamas and anchoring out a lot - that our fridge was misbehaving. Only 6-8 hours after stopping our engines, our fridge would start cycling on and off. (You have to listen carefully to hear the compressor starting and stopping.) The bottom line was,...

Will do. Yes, LP is the make. Boat is presently in transit from Holland back to the US - expected arrival in Newport, RI: Sept 17th. I assume PDQ could also provide this info as (I believe) they're fitting all their boats with this model now. Henry Baltic Adventure Web Log: http://www.geocities.com...

Use of the fuel in your FWD tank

Thanks Tom, I gather the transfer pickup doesn't go to the bottom, but then neither does the generator pick-up. How do you know what the differential is here? I've not been able to get any info on this from PDQ - and they certainly don't provide that kind of detail in their manual. When our boat wa...

Use of the fuel in your FWD tank

We do the same. We normally leave the forward valves open all the time. After we fill up, we open the valves in back and let the fuel flow aft until the forward tank gauge gets down to about 1/4 - then we close the valves. If you don't close the valves, all the fuel will syphon back into the aft ta...

convection-microwave oven

Our convection-microwave oven is an "LP". It works very well in either mode. It can also run in the combined mode - both convection & microwave together (it actually alternates back and forth so as not to exceed 12 Amps draw). This works particulary well for cooking fish. We haved als...

Re: Pilots

Thank you Jeanne and/or Peter,

Very helpful post... I was curious about these publications, it's great to be able to see them without commiting to purchase. Now, we may not have to buy them at all!

Thanks again,

Navionics Update #2

I'm happy to report that those three Navionics chart/chips we ordered (see my post above) arrived an impressive 3 days after the order was placed - from http://www.tidesend.com . To reiterate, these chart/cartridges (for Raymarine E-80/E120) are: CF/24 XG - Baltic Sea - Gulf of Bothnia CF/25 XG - S...

Charts for the Netherlands

So, now that we've got electronic charts (see above) and cheap paper charts (we've ordered the 2/3 sized grayscale reproductions from Bellingham Chart Printers), about the only thing left are charts of the Netherlands . Since we plan to enter Holland at Delfzijl and cruise inland waters all the way...

Water Heater

After looking into several alternatives, we've decided to postpone - at least for now - the installation of an alternative water heater. (The ITR unit looked great, but it was hard to justify the large expense and complicated installation.) One thing we have done, which has eliminated the problem o...

A Second Depth Sounder

Like most recent 34's, our boat came equipped with the Raymarine package which included a DSM 300 depth sounder. We seldom use the full fish-finder screen, instead we've set our E-80 displays to show the depth read-out in small windows along the edge of the screens. This works OK as long as the dep...
