Built-In TV Antenna

Our boat came with a built-in TV antenna, but we only this month discovered (after owning the boat almost a year!) that it has a little 12-V amplifier which must be turned on to enhance reception. Perhaps we are the only ones not to notice - but it was never mentioned at PDQ U and, until recently, ...

Prosine Inverter Problems

I'm happy to report that our Inverter problems now appear to be behind us. After several conversations with Xantrex Technical Support they eventually agreed to send us a new Prosine 2.0 under warrantee - which we have installed. And so far, no further problems. As an engineer, however, I couldn't h...

Navionics update

Turns out the info on TidesEnds website was a bit dated, and David's info in his post above was correct. Navionics has discontinued the XL3 size in their Gold series and replaced them with new XL9 charts. (The platinum charts are still available in the XL3 size, but these cost quite a bit more than...

Navigation

For our Raymarine E-80's, it looks to me as though we could get away with just three Navionics charts: 1) 25 XG "Sweden South - Germany"; 2) 14 G "Finland"; and 3) 25 G "UK South - Hamburg. The first is available from Fugawi for $268.95 http://www.fugawi.com/web/products/ma...

Airline Tickets & Intineraries

We have now taken the plunge and booked tickets to Finland. I'm arriving in "HEL" on June 16 and will be joined by friends in Helsinki. Nancy's coming to Stockholm on July 4 and hopefully meeting us - she may have to travel north (or east) a bit to make the rendezvous. We're both flying h...

Getting to Rauma

I've started looking into how we might actually get to Rauma - which is located on the west coast of Finland about 250 km (155 mi) north of Helsinki, and about 90 km (55 mi) north-northwest of Turku. Assuming we fly into Helsinki, there appear to be several possibilities: 1) There's no passenger ra...

Airline Tickets & Intineraries

I've been looking into possible flights. I've found that right now, it's possible to buy an "open leg" round-trip ticket from Boston (BOS) to Helsinki (HEL) - with a departure on June 12 - and a return from Amsterdam (AMS) non-stop to Boston - on Sept 12 - for a mere $1085 incl taxes. Tha...

Extra Keys

Tom, I ordered my keys this morning - Friday 3/30. They told me $4/ea plus $2 (approx) for shipping. (Maybe, they meant $2 apiece for shipping?) Haven't seen the bill yet - or the keys! I assume we all have similar keys? (I never mentioned they were for a boat - maybe that costs extra :) ) Who know...

Extra Keys

Looking ahead to the Adventure , it appears that we may need some extra boat keys as both the shipper, plus anyone handling the boat at either end, may want their very own copies. As you've probably noticed, our cabin door keys are double-sided and not easily copied. I did find however (by going to...

From 220/240 volts (50 Hz) to 110/120 volts (60 Hz)

On Sno' Dog we have tried reconnecting the microwave to the inverter circuit. It works fine - but we do get a "low battery" warning in short order if the engines aren't running. This is not really a problem, it just means that the low voltage warning set-point on our Prosine needs to be s...

Excellent review in Powerboat Reports

It was great to see such a positive review of the PDQ 34 in the March ‘07 issue of Powerboat Reports . As a no-ad publication (like Consumer Reports ) these articles tend to be reasonably objective. Besides the complementary comments, I was happy to see some actual performance figures for a 100-hp ...

Route through the Netherlands

As you may know if you’ve been following our website , I’ve been working on a detailed route through the Netherlands. We are familiar with cruising in Holland as we spent several summers there back in the early 1990’s. The route I’ve picked from Delftzijl (on the German border) to Ijmuiden (where o...

We’re on board

Hello Adventurers... Happy to see this (much anticipated) new thread on the Forum! A prime reason we signed on to this Great Adventure was the ability to share the burden of planning with other like-minded folks. There’s no doubt that taking a North American boat to Europe and making everything wor...

Prosine 2000 Problems

I checked mine, it's a Xantrex 250/3. I guess PDQ has upgraded to this model now. I was thinking, if this was the cause of the problem, I could turn it off and see what happens, but I haven't seen the problem again since it first occurred a few weeks ago. Another possibility, suggested by Xantrex, ...
