We get no spray from the bows in calm conditions and very little in general. I wonder if the new style spray deflectors are available (and retrofitable) to your boat? Also, how's your trim? I've noticed that boats without a dinghy sometimes look a bit nose heavy. Even with a dinghy, we try use fuel...

Hello Armin, Yes, I remember meeting you in Kingston in May. Sorry we didn't get to talk longer - I remember thinking, here's a man who knows a thing or two about the PDQ! As for the difficulty of "jumping off the side deck", I really don't see much of a problem. One of the better feature...

Feedback Please - PDQ 34 or 41

Craig and Jan, Unfortunately, there's probably no simple answer to your question. I suspect you'll be able to do everything you want in either boat. The 41 will, no doubt, provide an extra measure of comfort - but at a price. Beside the initial investment, you'll be paying more for fuel and dockage...

Prosine Inverter Problems

We received a couple of "Internal Error 0258" messages on our Prosine 2.0 last week while cruising in Maine. When I called Xantrex, they were prepared to send us a replacement unit (even to overnight it to Bar Harbor if we wanted to pay $60 shipping) but they said to first try a "col...

Donnie, I too, saw your eyecatching yellow hull - and loved it! We were very temped to go with a colored hull ourselves (for our 34 powercat) but decided at the last minute to stick with white and add some graphics. As for dinghies, we've been doing some research and I've posted the results on our S...

Dinghy

Hello Tom, I checked out Walker Bay dinghies but was not too impressed, they seemed a bit heavy and rated for low HP motors. HOWEVER, they've just introduced a new line of "Genesis Light Boats" which looks very promising. You can check them out at: http://www.walkerbaygenesis.com/ . Also, ...

Striking resemblance!

Thank you Salwa for helping me figure out how to get my photo into the "Avatars".
(Apparently, the secret is to add a ".jpg" to the website image. A ".html" just doesn't hack it.

Running on one engine...

I remember a comment from the Ozimeks (m/v 27 Rhumbline ) about cruising on one engine to extend range. (That article is still on the PDQ website: "A Path Less Travelled"). In an e-mail exchange, I tried to pin them down a bit, but they were not able to say for sure what, if any, fuel sav...

Yes, I think Sandy is on the right track. I've just posted a dinghy comparison table along with a discussion of this subject on my website. You can go directly to the page at: http://www.geocities.com/snodoglog/Dinghies.html

Distance per tank on MV 34

Just spoke to Rob Poirier, he gave me some pretty good answers to my own question. Four boats participated in the "River Rats" Flotilla this spring (see PDQ home page), three of these boats had 100-HP engines while one had 75's. Since all four boats traveled the same distance at approximat...

Distance per tank on MV/34

<snipped> ... we averaged 2.8 g/sm and 4.3 g/h. john cummings, duetto mv 23 John, I'm assuming you meant to say: "2.8 sm/gal "? Which is certainly very good! I'm still hoping to hear from more folks with the 100-hp engines , I understand that about half the new boats (2005) have this opti...

Sorry, I meant to say Western Caribbean -- as in the Yucatan, Belize, Roatan, Rio Dulce, etc.

engine compartment blowers/extinguishers

During our brief Sunsail charter, we used the (PDQ installed) blowers at the end of the day to take heat out of the engine rooms and help cool down the cabins. Worked fine -- except for the gawd-awful noise! We're hoping to find quieter blowers for our Sno'Dog. (For us, it's more about comfort. I'm ...
