Re: Anchor for 2001 32 MV
Good point about the bridle for wind and swell from different directions. Sleeping athwartship, we can tolerate rolling in beam swell more than we could in the monohull, but there have been times it was worth rigging the bridle to reduce the motion. While you are pivoting the boat to take the swell ...

Re: Anchor for 2001 32 MV
Congrats, Harold, on your purchase. Ground tackle is a subject with many opinions. I think your plan is a good one as long as the chain fits your windlass gypsy (likely that it does). It is hard to imagine needing more rode than you will be carrying. The 20kg Rocna is a great anchor and more than ad...

Re: Exhaust System Failure - Check Yours!
Ours on both sides have corroded within the past several years. It was a tough job getting the broken fasteners out. High temps and salt water injection make this inevitable. Thanks for posting the warning.

Re: Flybridge Storage Locker Tips
One tip I will give you is to be careful storing flimsy plastic jugs such as water (distilled for batteries or drinking). They need to be cushioned and secured against abrasive movement or they will quickly wear holes and leak. I use plastic milk crates with an old towel folded under the jugs.

Re: Hull - Dent Deflection Depression Dimple - and Fender Placement
We have several about the size of a large lemon where something between the hull and dock crushed the core slightly. They are quite noticeable in the right lighting but we have elected not to fix them. We have been beat up pretty badly against docks over the years and our 12 inch cylindrical fenders...

Re: Headliner w light fixture
On our boat you can remove the screws holding the headliner and gently lower it with the light fixture wiring connected. There is only so much slack, however, so be careful. I don't recall that disconnecting the wiring was difficult.

There is another recent thread in which I posted the instructions from the Yanmar Operators Manual. The mechanic might have good reason for not believing the Yanmar folks, but I follow the instructions.

Re: Propeller size for the 100 hp engines.
Mac,
Yes, I have done it, but I never let my turbo blades get dirty, so the washing is more preventative. I have heard some others who had not done it for a very long time say it did help to get more RPM at the top end.

Re: Boat Insurance
Our policy was with GEICO and after getting the same non-renewal letter, the independent agent said she would shop us around but any other policy almost certainly would require an out of the water survey ($$$). I contacted GEICO directly and they were happy to give me the same coverage under a new p...

Ft. Myers has a nice River District area to visit. Pelican Bay at the north end of Cayo Costa is a great anchorage. You can go ashore with a dink ($2 per person cash park fee) and take the free tram to the gulf beach. There is a manatee pocket south of the park docks for dinghy exploration. Tween Wa...

I have to say, once again, how terrific it is for you to share all that detail with the community. After reading it, I doubt many of us would dare try it ourselves.
