Re: Thelma and Louise Up To No Good
Oil level is good. Compression tester in storage. I planned on just sticking my finger in the port to see if there is any compression. I haven't checked the valve clearance. It ran fine and then stopped running. Are the valves shimmed? Is there any manual adjustment for timing, or does the cdi take ...

Re: Thelma and Louise Up To No Good
I swapped the carbs tonight. The newly cleaned carb ran smoothly on the starboard engine. The port engine sputtered for about thirty seconds before stalling out. There was a distinct metallic clicking. So, back to the service manual part of this thread. I hate wasting money. Do I need a service manu...

Re: Thelma and Louise Up To No Good
Thanks TW! a. OK. I'll check the lean/fuel starvation possibility. The carb bowl was full and the the fuel pump seemed to pump quite vigorously. b. After the initial stalling problem, I cleaned the carb. After I installed it, the engine started up and ran smoothly for about fifteen minutes. This onl...

Thelma and Louise Up To No Good
Howdy Folks! My outboards, Thelma and Louise, are conspiring to keep me from sailing!! Yesterday was a beautiful, sunny day here in Corpus. The Admiral and I planned on another great sailing experience. I cranked up the engines for about fifteen minutes prior to casting off the lines. I typically pu...

I agree with Tom. Fire away. Be patient. Sometimes it takes a while to get a response.

Re: Resealing Large Salon Windows
Lesson Learned Dept: DO NOT....I repeat...DO NOT transfer even a small amount of Sika Primer 209-D into a Red Solo Cup! Although you will have easier access to the precious primer for about a minute, you will then be contemplating a new Dalmatian, Killer Whale, or, appropriate here in Texas, a sweet...

Re: Propane System and Excel H2O Heater
James and Brendan, Duly noted! I'm thinking about enhanced ventilation with any installation. Exhaust fans (except for an inline bilge blower for the holding tank compartment) take up valuable real estate on the deck. Where best to put them? Is a puzzlement! I'm consciously trying to do something th...

Re: Propane System and Excel H2O Heater
My Dad acquainted me with Navy showers. These days, that would be child abuse  Of course, he grew up with seven sisters and three brothers in a two bedroom house with one bathroom. Those Navy showers were a luxury for him. Still works for me though. Jim, thanks for setting the context. I'll...

Re: Propane System and Excel H2O Heater
I wish I'd done the mock-up thing before getting the dog. It would have had to have been a very hairy box, that drools, though  Good counsel TW! I hope that I'm well into the due diligence aspect (except that I've already purchased the heater - part of the sale  ). Regarding the heater i...

Re: Propane System and Excel H2O Heater
Checked dimensions again (measure 3 hundred times, cut fewer holes in perfectly good boat). For the install on the wall right of the head sink, the manufacturer's dimensions could work. The exhaust would be good for warming up one's face, perhaps. There would be a few inches above the sink, room for...

Re: Propane System and Excel H2O Heater
Thanks Gents! Great brain candy! Jim's pic came in clear. The one's attached to Root's thread didn't display. That could be my worthless 'free' internet connection, or my tired old (7) laptop, or a user malfunction. I haven't checked/memorized every thread yet. The Admiral is particularly sensitive ...

Re: Refrigerator Door Seal
I finally got to this job last weekend. Fridge temp dropped from about 50F to 38F. Frost up around the evaporator is minimal too! I cleaned the door channel and carefully placed a 1/4" thick by 3/8" wide adhesive-backed strip of EPDM foam in the bottom of the channel. I stuffed a 'D' shape...

Re: Propane System and Excel H2O Heater
Okay. I've got the vent without the fan. But it would only be sucking air in through the compartment drain hole. Opening the hatch seems simple enough. I'm thinking a switch of some kind in the holding tank compartment (maybe a water shutoff valve) to ensure compliance with the 'open hatch while usi...

Re: Pipe and Gasket for Waste System
'Shoot the hose'....do you mean just shoot water down the vent line? Yep, that would work if it wasn't clogged tight. (I just unclogged a hatch/deck drain line that was clogged near the bottom/outlet. I used an extra long twisty tie )

Re: Propane System and Excel H2O Heater
Images of 'Salvador Dali Clocks' have put the water heater project back on the drawing board. That's like someone warning you to not install an un-firewalled wifi music system lest some evil-doer infiltrates your collection of classic rock with Terry Jacks' 'Seasons in the Sun'. I've now read the in...
