Exumas conditions October 3, 2015

How about any reports about conditions in the Exumas. Many folks are heading that way and wonder about hurricane damage.

Re: NAFTA Certification Document

Clinton signed it into law on December 8, 1993; the agreement went into effect on January 1, 1994. Anything prior to that date would be irrelevant.

It is an electronic switch that shunts power in one of two directions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRIAC

Re: A/C in Cabins not getting cold no faults?

If there is adequate charge in the system a common failure is the triac on the circuit board. A replacement online costs less than $10. We paid $8.95 and bought two # TG35F60, 600V from www.jameco.com (Jameco Electronics 1-800-831-4242). Also the capacitor fails on occasion.

Re: Location of keels & tacking ability - 32 vs 36?

Throwing the wheel hard over like a mono hull will stall the boat also. A more moderate wheel position and back winding the jib works very well. You will never get a fast tack, so go with one that gets you through the wind.

Re: Deck cap WASTE

I ALWAYS removed my own caps and put them back on. Dockside crews often have no clue about anything on a boat.

Re: Anyone with experience with composting head?

Surveyors don't look at marine heads. They look at the general condition of the vessel for seaworthiness and insurance.

Re: Diesels on PDQ's use sail drives?

36's all use saildrives. I can't speak to the 32's (I believe they use shafts). In our 8 years of ownership we bottom painted every two years. At that time we changed the oil in the drives, fitted new zincs, replaced one propeller and painted with anti-fouling paint. We had water in one drive when w...

Re: Sunshine was sunk by the US Coast Guard

Camouflage here would be a stucco paint job and a red tile roof, maybe paint a couple of palm trees (or have them on slide outs). We do seriously have some very nice motorhome parks nearby and they are allowed for day visits.
