Re: Documentation number placard

Hi,

Two suggestions for you - we affixed our board within the cupboard containing the remote fuel filter for the port side engine (starboard side cupboard would also do); the previous owner affixed a similar board within the storage area for the house batteries.

Cheers,

John

Re: Storage for 2014 hurricane season - Bahamas

This is an update to our original post. We've found two facilities in the Bahamas that have the capacity to offer dry land storage for a PDQ 34. They are Marsh Harbour Boat Yards and the Bahamas Yacht Yard of Bradford Marine, which is located in Freeport Harbour. Both yards appear to be professional...

Re: Storage for 2014 hurricane season - Bahamas

Hi Ron,

Thanks for sharing your experience with summer crossings. Being able to cross in August expands our options if it's not feasible for us to return to Florida in June.

It's interesting to hear that you were able to make the Marsh Harbour trip in one day - that's quite an accomplishment!

Storage for 2014 hurricane season - Bahamas

We hope to join the Rhumbline excursion to the Exumas next May, which will be our first experience cruising these waters. Our preferred plan is to return to Florida in June, and store His Idea on land somewhere near Stuart for the 2014 hurricane season. Unfortunately, due to the vagaries of U.S. Cus...

Re: Scuba Tank Storage

Hi Larry, Congratulations on your purchase of Plush Toy. Based on our experience with our own 34, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. We're not scuba divers, but the previous owners of His Idea were. They had collapsible mounting brackets, capable of holding 4 single tanks, custom made for the vesse...

Re: Battery Draw

Thanks for your input everybody, it was quite helpful. Alas, battery systems will continue to remain something of a mystery, but now I know a lot more than I did before.....John

Re: Battery Draw

Thanks very much for the quick and thoughtful responses. Obviously there is more to this than meets the eye! The comments about the use of electronics , which we do power through the use of the inverter quite frequently, are well taken. Perhaps our daily draw is larger than we realize. Overall it wo...

Battery Draw

This spring we replaced His Idea's four house batteries (believed to be the originals, from 2007) with Trojan T-125's. Better performance was expected - and there has been some improvement - however I am disappointed with the results. The best we seem to get between recharges is about a day, i.e. st...

Re: lifeline builder?

Hi John, Shortly after purchasing His Idea we had a mishap with a piling which required installation of a new starboard side rail. To avoid removing all the footings we had the new rail and original supports re-welded at the dock. The repair has worked fine over many miles of use. We had the work do...

Re: Slick shield experience not so good

We also had Slick Shield applied in March. Since then we have travelled about 2200 miles from Stuart to the Saguenay region of Quebec, through a wide variety of water conditions. From my underwater observations of the running gear (both sight and feel), it would appear we have lost most of the coati...

Re: Microwave issues

Hi Sandy, and John,

Thanks for your suggestions to try replacing the breaker. We hadn't thought of that, but then again neither did the technician. We'll give it a try.

Thanks again....

Microwave issues

A few weeks back we started to have issues with the LG microwave/convection oven originally installed on our 2007 PDQ 34 , i.e. it started to trip the breaker when it was heating for longer periods. Finally, in Carolina Beach, the magnatron packed it in. We thought our troubles were behind us when w...

Re: Prop anti-fouling

Like Bill P, we also had Slick Shield applied to the props and rudder on His Idea (formerly Desafinado) when she was hauled at SYH in February. There were some barnacles and growth when I checked on them (in water) last week, and I did my best to clean it off with a dish pad. This was moderately suc...
