Front Window Retrofit
I am considering retrofitting an opening front window to my 2002 model year boat. As you all likely know this model relies on the ceiling hatch and flybridge vent for ventilation. Before spending the money I though I would make a call out for thoughts on the pro and cons of the idea. Do later year m...

Re: Battery combiner to replace Xantrex
The relays on the xantrex were manufactured by White Rogers. They have a web site and the type of relay is a type 120 SPNO. it's under their emerson climate technologies page. i got the start of this search off the label on my solenoids. If it's just the solenoids a little web time and phone time mi...

Re: davit block and tackle
Just noticed this post and would suggest looking at the Garhauer products. They produce a high quality line of blocks and other deck hardware for mostly sail boats. They used to be the primary supplier for Catalina. Their warranty is really simple if it breaks they send you a new one. I first had th...

Re: Damaged my props & 4 bladed props
I have a set of 3 bladed props which I would sell you for the amount I would get for selling for the bronze weight plus you pay the shipping.
My props were serviced when i bought the boat, 75 HP by the way and have not damaged them. They might need service due to loading etc.

Re: transmission oil cooler?
Not at the moment its on my boat however go to the ejbowman web site and look for the DC Oil Cooler Section. The brochure shows all the parts. I got my connectors from the FL distributor. Out of curiosity what's causing your need for this info?

Re: Seacocks
In another life time I broke a nipple, male threaded to a barb, on a forepsar thru hull (it was the engine cooling raw water supply). I called forespar, a So Cal company. The brought me a replacement to the dock while on a trip to Catalina. They insisted it would be impossible to break one of their ...

Re: transmission oil cooler?
The brand is Bowman. They have a web site and a "stockist" in FL. I learned all this because my connecting tubing wasted away from the water being stagnant. Actually patched them up with marine tex but went ahead and had new tubes made locally. Fabricator couldn't quite reproduce the same ...

Re: Replacement LED lights for the Salon
Thanks for the useful information about the LED bulbs for the salon. My boat is an 02 build and has solid state dimmer controls. Will the LED's work with the installed dimmers or will I need to wire around or purchase specific dimmers.

Yanmar Engine Full Power Run Cycle
I was told by a dock neighbor who owns a Yanmar turbo diesel powered sailboat that Yanmar is recommending a 10% of every hour run at full load to prevent turbo carbonizing. He stated that he now sets a timer to follow this procedure. Has anyone else heard of this practice. As former licensed USCG en...

Sliding Door Weatherstriping
Does anyone know who manufactured, Bomar?, the sliding door to the cabin,as far as I know its the only sliding door on the boat. My weather stripping seemingly failed overnight. I am trying to find a generic replacement locally but it would be much easier to locate an exact fit product. John Gonnerman

Re: Cooling Circuit
The pipes are the stainless pipes connecting into the transmission cooler and both pipes on each engine are showing pinhole to small cracks. The local Yanmar shop took a look after my post and asked it the boat sat for long intervals. Apparently stagnant salt water becomes more corrosive than fresh ...

Cooling Circuit
Hi PDQ fans, I would like to inquire if there have been other 75HP boats with corrosion (either galvanic or cavitation) of the stainless pipes connecting the raw water circuit to the transmission cooler. Mine have eroded/corroded along the seam of the pipe. Would like to know cause and if there is a...

4 Bladed Props on 75 HP engine sets
I am about to install my 4 bladed props on my boat. I am having some anxiety attacks about engine loading, rpm, etc. When I purchased my boat the factory selected props were on the boat and the engines could not reach rated rpm and I had to have the props de-pitched a bit. I know that there are at l...

Re: shaft support question
MY opinion for what it is worth is that Tides Marine is on the right track but has the wrong solution. A shaft of the unsupported length of the PDQ and its diameter turning at relatively low rpm 1400-1500 (on a 75 hp boat) is not likely to develop a centrifically induced bow/whip. I owned a J-120 (s...

Re: access to bilges?
try using a wet dry vac and sliding the suction hose along the space just forward of the "tub" accessed from the engine space. after getting the bulk of the water out just throw in some sponges and sop the rest up. i placed water in this space by overflowing the shower sump. it would flow ...
