Re: Fuel Vent Gurgle?
Alan, Yes, ours are Rule Automatic. From their info: Rule automatic bilge pumps have an internal computer chip to cycle pumps every 2-1/2 minutes. The pump runs for one second and shuts down if no water is detected. If water is detected, automatic pumps sense resistance at the impeller and run until...

Re: Fuel Vent Gurgle?
Are you sure it is not the automatic bilge pumps cycling on to check if there is water to pump? Ours make that gurgle sound you described.

Re: places to stay in the FL keys?
I would use Active Captain (free site, now owned by Garmin) to locate all those places and check what other captains have said about those places while you plan.

Re: places to stay in the FL keys?
Kip, Over the years, we have stopped at: Dry Tortugas, Boca Grande Key, Key West (W of Fleming Island), Saddelbunch Harbor (E of Boca Chica, ocean side), Bahia Honda (between the bridges), Marathon (Boot Key Harbor mooring ball), Coco Plum, Lower Matecumbe, Indian Key, Snake Creek (bayside), Pumpkin...

Re: places to stay in the FL keys?
Wish I could help, but we have always anchored out. Of course, from late Apr to late Oct, you pretty much want to be docked and running A/C.

Re: Black Water Waste Tank
I believe it is an integral part of the starboard bow, aft of the collision bulkhead; not a separate tank at all. Perhaps someone else can give a definitive answer.

Sorry for your loss, but thanks for sharing the tip. Hope I never need to use it.

Re: Microwave Addition
Yes, Mac, there is a big difference between peak power and average power consumption.

Re: Florida Storage
Maybe there would not be a 30A marine hookup, but perhaps 120V 15A with extension cord could be arranged.

Re: Windlass reversing solenoid
Thanks for the input. If it was the original unit and lasted 14 years, I am not unhappy.

Re: Windlass reversing solenoid
Follow-up: I received the replacement solenoid and installed it today. I connected the wires the same way as they were before, by using a photo I took before disassembly and the downloaded schematic to get the colors right. Guess what? The up button made it go down and vice versa. All I had to do wa...

Re: Effective Water
We, too, now use 9-10 gals per day. When we started with our sailboat, we had 78 gals in 3 tanks and got away with 3.1 gals per day. We have gotten more decadent over time.

Re: Effective Water
I have run the tank dry and seem to recall it took 75 gallons to fill using the meter that I have attached to a fitting for filling. Unlike the holding tank monitor, the water tank monitor is pleasant to remove and clean/test/calibrate. There are little floats at the ends of the 3 rods. When the flo...

Re: Windlass reversing solenoid
Mac, I will install the new one upon arrival (shipping takes longer in these COVID-19 days) and am not sure about storing the old one aboard as a spare. Our boat is already heavy enough and the chances of us needing that spare are probably very low. Now that I know how easy it is to get a "stic...

Windlass reversing solenoid
In the vein of “it worked the last time I used it,” I recently took the boat out for a short ride and decided to drop the anchor for a picnic lunch. The windlass would not go up or down, not make noise of any kind, including no “clicking” from the solenoid. I suspected the switch at the lower helm h...
