Yamaha T8 PCRs on hull 36026

Page 83 hit the water Friday and sailed back to Home Port Saturday. I ran the engines for a total of 3 hours at half throttle, averaging 5 knots sails down, with and into the wind. After a horific moral battle, I resisted the nearly overwhelming urge to just bump them up to 3/4 throttle, at least un...

bullet for lunch, advice please!

Both engines are mounted. It took an enormous amount of time to get the wiring harness straightened out, but everything works, with caveats. I have to travel for a while, and won't get Page 83 back in the water till the end of April. After that it wil probably take a week or two to get thru the reco...

In hot water, gladly.

I couldn't reach Excel by phone, but when I cruised the Web for another number I found they are doing a LOT of business on Ebay. They are selling their "D-cell" heaters for $295 on buy-it-now and several have gone for $250 which is probably their reserve price. They had listed two of the n...

I bought a used throttle quadrant on Ebay that has switches for trim and tilt, it came with newish control cables, but I would like advice on what cables bend in the tightest radius. It got cold again here in Annapolis (freezing rain yseterday!) but I think I got the glass work done on the starboard...

T8 installation

The engines arrived. They were built in France! Bolted on the bracket for the controls and got worried: the gear shift cable attaches to the manual shift lever outside the engine cowl! Fears proved groundless, port engine popped right in, from above and from below, with more room to spare that the 9...

Biting the bullet: T8pxrs

I've ordered a pair of Yamaha High Thrust 8hp engines with power tilt. Your prayers or incantations will be appreciated. I'll keep this topic updated as the adventure continues. Anybody interested in some 900 hour year 2000 T9.9s? They are still running well, and have received a lot of new parts ove...

new sails

I just bought a new main and genoa from Calvert; I'm pointing at least 5 degrees higher, and the shape is fantastic. I ordered 9 oz fabric and they are pretty stiff and harder to raise. $4700 for both.

PDQ 36 LRC

I've been very happy with my older 36 because its very comfortable and easy to sail. I believe the outboard version is about a knot faster, (maybe 14 %) because the engines are out of the water most of the time, but propel the vessel just as fast as the diesels. This is based on a few impromptu race...

I just sold mine on Ebay because I couldn't get it to tune. I THOUGHT it was a problem with the microphone socket on my home-grown computer.

Compass error

I've had my yamaha binnacle apart quite a few times: there are few steel parts inside, and the bulkiest parts are the handles themselves. You can take them off without opening the binnacle itself, and see if they are the culprits. I'll bet someone here can tell us how to degauss them!

A/C on lift

This is an interesting question. My 36 was built in 1993, and takes cooling water from the inlet forward of the starboard keel. It uses a very quiet 115 VAC pump that is unfortunately underpowered for sucking water three or four feet up above sealevel. You will have to provide that pump with an easi...

A spinning prop develops more drag than the same prop stopped. Sailboat racers go so far as to lock the prop in an optimal position, to gain that last tenth of drag reduction. If it doesn't spin, it doesn't get hot!

Mine is in the starboard forward locker, too. The keels start just a little aft of that. I'm thinking of making the shelves in that locker removeable to make it easier to get down there. I would like to use clevis pins to remoe the center vertical post. If I figure it out, I'll post some pictures. T...

Honda 15s in PDQ 32

I've owned both a PDQ 32 and PDQ 36. I don't have the measurements to compare, but I've always though the 32 hatches were more "engine Friendly than the 36. While I'd be glad to trade you my 800 hr 9.9 high thrusts, you might want to think about this solution: examine the location of the engine...
