Re: Powercat Charter Available

I looked into this a few years ago using a marine law attorney. Learned more about cabotage than I wanted to know. Almost bought an Endeavour to avoid the issue, but wisely stuck with the PDQ. My recollection is that an exception to the Jones Act literally requires an act of congress. It can be done...

Re: Fuel transfer

Hey Bill, This was the way we use to prime the fuel transfer system during commissioning and as you said, it works like a charm !! James When I said "Followed others instructions..." I should have given credit to James who mentioned this to me as he did a systems walk-thru years ago.

Re: Spray Deflector Repair

I had this done by a local who has done some fiberglassing (not an expert). He prepped the two 6-inch gaps and ground down and tapered the top and bottom of all remaining edges that abut the repair. He then made a form using the center tube from a paper towel roll and taped it under the broken ends ...

Re: Fuel transfer

I just had this problem. I then tried to transfer from stern to bow but no luck. Followed others instructions to fill bow tank to the top of the fill pipe and then start transfer - - worked like a charm. This may be a better solution than disconnecting and reconnecting fuel lines.

Bullet Zincs

Checked the zincs I installed 5 months ago. The flat rudder zincs were fine, but the bullet zincs on the prop shafts were gone - - bolts and all. While talking with a diver who checks/replaces zincs several times a week, he said the first part to be sacrificed was the part that is pinched between th...

Re: shaft support question

I had bone dry bilges until the factory seals failed at about 850 hours. Replaced these with Tides Marine "blue boots" with a built-in spare seal. It failed in 100 hours. Factory said this seal was tested by seatrials and is NOT recommended for PDQs. When pressed for an explanation, they s...

Re: access to bilges?

We've accessed the port bilge under the floor below the refrigerator. One or 2 people standing on the port bow brings any water to this point. I have seen very little accumulate in months of cruising. I too would like to know, how could I do a similar thing on the starboard hull. Where should I put ...

Re: RPM Loss on Port Engine

Problem solved! Changed both filters on the port engine and it ran up to 3500 rpm just fine. Even though I had only 100 hours on them and the Racors looked clean, this was the problem. Promptly changed the stbd filters too. Thanks folks for the suggestions.

Re: Batteries and charger

I installed a house bank of eight T-105's. They j-u-s-t fit with a 3/4" plywood extension in the battery compartment. We are on the hook 2-3 days before we need to recharge. They are 2 yrs old with no signs of degrading (yet). Its extra weight to haul, but I like not having to recharge every da...

Re: Anyone ever weigh their MV34?

Our MV34 reportedly weighed 16,000 lbs, but the travel lift operator wasn't sure about the accuracy. With 8 6v Trojan house batteries, full scuba gear for 2 including dive compressor, TV, two 40# anchors, 100' of chain rode, bicycle, kayaks, and other "necessities" this sounded a little li...

RPM Loss on Port Engine

I can only get 2950 rpm at WOT on the port engine (75 hp 4JH3-TE) compared to 3450 on the stbd engine. Visually checked the secondary (non-engine mounted) Racors and they seemed fine. Both props were clean. The port side had a small ding, but I don't think it was enough to cause a 500 rpm drop. Both...

Re: PDQ Engine Mounts for 75hp Yanmars

I installed the Yanmar mounts - - the extra work alligning new mounts with a different bolt pattern was a little intimidating. Also, the cost for 4 Yanmar mounts was $600 vs: $1,000+ for other mounts. Disconnected the exhaust and lifted and replaced the rear mounts; then lifted the front of the engi...
