Re: chart plotter
I too need to upgrade my 2003 5" Navman plotter that uses NT+ chips. My chips go from New York south and around to Ft. Myers - - only Bimini displays for the Bahamas. Its OK in these areas, but I want the most accurate (i.e.; detailed) charts for the near and mid-Bahamas. ANY SUGGESTIONS?? Bill...

Re: Bahamas Insurance
I pay less than $800 / yr from Nationwide. Agreed Value = $180k Deductible = $1,000 per occurrence Liability = $300k I'm trying to get a rider from another company, but I haven't found anyone who would just add a rider to my current policy. They all want to sell me a 1 year and I hate to give up Nat...

Re: Need a Turbocharger for Yanmar 4JH3-TE
Installed the turbo that was rebuilt by Cheetah Turbos in Rye NY. Ran like a champ from Ocean City to Ft Lauderdale via the Chesapeake. Only cost $400 compared to twice that for Mack Boring. Cause was water ingestion - - a leaky seal + faulty bilge float = LOTS of water thrown around the engine room...

The more I use it the more I like it. The Manson grabs quick and holds - - even when we were spun 270 degrees by 25 kt winds during the night.

Re: Anyone have icemaker on the flybridge?
we were about to get a bridge icemaker installed but were advised to buy a portable one instead - - and it works great! Cost about $200, plugs into 120v and the first cubes pop out in 6 min. Just dump in a gallon of water and you have enough ice for days. When in transit I move it under the dining t...

Re: In South Florida for a couple of days
If you hear of a spot on the FL east coast where I can tie up my PDQ 34 for Nov and Dec, let me know. Heading south after the Annapolis Power show and looking for a safe, reasonably priced place to park her.

Bahamas Insurance
Just found out that Nationwide Insurance will not cover my PDQ 34 outside the U.S. They offer no rider or coverage for the Bahamas where I plan to be Jan - Mar 2010. Has anyone researched the options for coverage there?

Re: Ground tackle?
I researched the SARCA and was very impressed. was going to buy one until I found it cost about $1,000 for the galvanized model (freight alone was about $400). Continued the research and found a Manson anchor, made in New Zealand, but with a U.S. distributor. It looks like a clone of the SARCA and M...

Re: Need a Turbocharger for Yanmar 4JH3-TE
Thanks - - it appears rebuild is the way to go. New turbo = $1,500+, Mack Boring rebuild = $750, Cheetah Turbo (Rye, Ny) = $500. Unit was sent to Cheetah Turbo and is due back before 9/30/09 - - If there are any issues with these guys, I'll be sure to post. Otherwise, no news is good news. Bill &...

Need FL Location to leave my PDQ 34, Nov+ Dec
We're new to this Snowbird thing - - this being our first winter with our PDQ. Plan is to head south the 1st 2 weeks of Nov and to park it in a "safe place" until we return in early Jan for the Bahamas. We are thinking anywhere from Stuart to Miami. A private dock would work or a reasonabl...

Re: 34 Owners List?
Interesting question - - how much personal data to publish? I think that starting with a list of Model/Hull# and last known boat name - - nothing personal. Then allow people to enter whatever info they want. This is one approach that is sure to satisfy everyone. Just initialize the fields with "...

Use House Bank to start engines??
Now that we've upgraded the house bank, the weak link in the electrical system is the starting batteries. Is there an easy way to use the house batteries to start an engine if the starting battery dies?

Re: Watermaker - Repair or Replace ??
Whoa!!
5k incremental investment seems like a lot given the incremental gain. I'd LOVE 8gph, but I guess I need to see if I LIKE the 1.4gph. Refurbish it is.
Thanks for your input people. It was most helpful in making a decision.
