Re: Any PDQ gear still around?

I sent the digital PDQ Yachts file to www.queensboro.com and they digitized it. They have some very nice Columbia shirts, among their many catalog items.

Re: Changing A/C drip pans

We replaced ours with a Climma 12,000 that has a slow start compressor. It works really well with our Honda 2000i and we get nice AC all night at anchor for a gallon of gas. I did not mind sacrificing some BTUs for small generator compatibility. Hope that's useful info...

Re: Roll Call: how well did you survive Irene

No damage to any of the boats. I saw a few gusts to 60kts in Fishing Creek at about 2am (just inshore of Thomas Point Light). It was a noisy night with the wind howling over the deck as i tried to sleep. Some neighboring boats did not fare as well. Once broke off its mooring and on unfurled it Genny...

Re: PDQ OWNERS GET TOGETHER IN ANNAPOLIS ?

We hosted the last two years. It was fun meeting everyone. We have a wedding in Richmond on that Saturday, but might be able to pull something off around that. Our house we used for the party is rented out, and the other one is 'under construction' as Bonnie has just gutted the first floor. So we ma...

Re: Deale to Baltimore Inner Harbor

Watch out for fish traps and freighters. :-) Beware of close in to Thomas Point Park. Its 1.5' deep at low tide in spots. (I know I live there and walk around out there fishing at times.) I like to cut Sandy Point and check out the light house. PDQs can cut the the point close to Bodkin creek. Watch...

Sailing Charter in Croatia

We didn't go to Croatia on our PDQ, but did fly over and charter a Sunsail 393. It was an amazing place. Here is the Blog link with photos and video - http://desertstarpdq36.blogspot.com/201 ... -2011.html

Re: Teak cockpit sole

Hi Drew;
Great idea. We use those in the front half of the head of our PDQ36. We use the Drydek in the shower side. I hope to use some of the NuTeak or similiar in the cockpit, but haven't had the time for that project yet.
Best,
Eric

Re: Catch 22 on the Chesapeake

Hi FX and Bobbie; Welcome to PDQs and the Chesapeake Bay. My wife and I are in Annapolis, and there a quite a few PDQs that call the DC metro area home. Here are some of my views on handling the boat. Others may have different/better ones. She does tack a bit worse than a Hobie Cat, but if you keep ...

Re: Anyone have PDQ 36 Sail Plan with Measurements?

Many of the boats rigs are slightly different. I own hull 49, but have main sails from hull 41 and 26. None matched mine. Hope this helps.

Re: Dinghy/Solar pane larch

Here is an okay view of mine. The arch was actually slightly off and did not set back far enough. The fabricator added short extensions off the rear for the rings that the blocks connect to.
Hope this is useful.

Re: Sailing without a motor

I highly recommend the PDQ 36. We enjoy the boat in every aspect and it has been great fun! It's the first time in 25 years that I look at sailing magazines and don't think "What's the next boat".

The forum is great support and adds to the experience.

Re: Sailing without a motor

Hi Greg; I thought they would be too. And in many situations they are, especially close hauled they reduce slipping to leeward. Here were the problems (in my opinion): - On a 47' boat, it takes two men to raise and lower the boards, and a third on the helm to take the load off the boards. - Getting ...

Re: Rudders draging on hull

I bent both rudders hitting a dredge pipe. James Power fixed them. Basically we used a 'come along' and tow strap from the anchor roller to rudder. Made a 2x4 frame to protect the rudder and cranked it. It worked great. James also helped Sandy with his, which was bent differently. Here is the link -...

Re: Asymetrical Spinnaker Rigging.

Mine is a 36, so its a bit different. But basically, I use the spinnaker halyard to raise and lower, keep a light line for a single sheet and a removable snatch block back on the toe rail near the cockpit for the turn to the winch. I store the entire thing in an ice check in a forward compartment wi...
