Running on one engine...

I was thinking (always dangerous when that happens) about the proper way to run on one engine if need be. I would think it would be best to pull the dead engine out of gear and place it in neutural to avoid the prop drag but then will the prop free spinning damage anythng? That can't be good for the...

These boat do produce a bit of spray but I don't see much unless I am in 2' plus seas. When running my bow does come up a bit and I can observe spray being deflected to the sides of the hulls. If there is any wind sometimes it will pick up and toss the spray on deck. But unless there is a good chop,...

Proper Hull Blocking for the Winter!

I had a recent scare on my boat and I want to share this info with my fellow PDQrs. :( I had my boat (PC34 Hull68) pulled for the winter two weeks ago and had my yard block her for the off season. Upon my inspection of her yesterday, I found two groups of small cracks in the floor liner just forward...

New Boater, Welcome...I think you will find people with PDQ's have a variety of boating experience. The PC34 is in my opinion a very intuitive boat to learn and handle. My other boat is a 21' Center Console with a single outboard and the PC34 is easier to dock than the 21' monohull. Yes, the PDQ is ...

Well I guess the "Cat's Outta the Bag"...No pun intended  , Wow, that's a huge move for PDQ. I would think boat workers, glass people etc, are available in the Carolinas as this seems to be a destination for many builders on the east coast. I wish Simon and PDQ all the best in this e...

Window Washers....

Running the boat in any substantial chop I get quite a bit of sea spray on the windshield that just get's plain nasty to see through. The Chesapeake salt turns white and the wipers just push it around. Why is it that boat manufacturers can't seem to get a window washing option on their boats? Anyway...

Bottom Paint / Battery / Cushion Winterization Questions

1) I'll be pulling our MV34 in November and wonder how often the bottom will need to be re-painted. Boat was new this spring and I think PDQ uses Trinidad Pettit paint. What do you look at when the boat is pulled to determine if re-painting is necessary or it can go another season? Our boating is pr...

Question...This is my first year owning a vessel that requires "outside layup". Is snow really that damaging to a fiberglass boat? I live in the mid atlantic area and we get maybe 24" average per year. So what is the big advantage in wrapping the whole boat. Spring cleanup? Sandy Kram...

Interesting topic. I was in the south flotilla and was running the 75 hp engines and yes, the 100's will need to back off a bit to allow the 75's to keep up but...Human nature is human nature. What happens if I run at 17-18 knots because I can with 100's, what does that do to the fuel equation? Sure...

Bill, not sure about the seperate shower unit but I beleive Annapolis Sailyard just took in a MV34 for brokerage. Give them a call or check Yacht Trader to see what's out there.

What speed are you running at top RPM average. The 75 hp Yanmars are rated at 3800 RPM with no load, out of gear. A mechanic can tach your engines because the Yanmar tachs can be off a little as mine are. I am told that if a prop is even a little out of balance it can change your running RPM. In you...

What type and size second anchor?

Looking for a second anchor to supplement the "Kingston" anchor that came with the MV34. I boat in the Chesapeake Bay mostly and basically this will be a backup / storm anchor if needed. I do plan to do the Bahamas down the road. So which anchor do you folks recomend? Thanks Sandy Kramer M...

It seems like we are treating the symptoms but not the problem. I'll touch base with the factory to see if there is any type of 'recommended" fix for this problem. I know my rear tank vent is on the transom between my windows. I believe there is a device in line to prevent fuel from running out...

Fueling Concerns....

Is it normal for fuel to "burp" out the filler neck when finished fueling. No matter what speed I pump, as soon as I hear the fuel rising I shut the pump and get a bubble "burp"of diesel. Sure it wipes up but someone suggested that perhaps the vent is not working correctly. I do ...

PDQ 3rd Flotilla and PDQ U a great time...

Just got back from 16 days of PDQ heaven. We went up to Whitby the Friday prior to PDQ U and provisioned our new "Mishigas". The boat is extremely comfortable and very livable. The folks at PDQ did an outstanding job of getting everything right and right down to finest details. PDQ U was w...
