Re: Northern Lights Genset Brushes
I just played with my generator for a couple of days (see post about checking the NL generator 12V ground). If the engine runs it's not any of the four 12V relays (I studied the wiring diagram for days when troubleshooting my generator). Obviously you probably checked the 120v circuit breakers on th...

Heads up- Northern Lights Generator Ground
On a recent trip to the Abacos our generator shut down (Northern Lights M673D). It turned out to be three ground wires all broke off from the same ring terminal that attached to the block. These are related to the shutdown switches, so obviously the generator wouldn't run. Unfortunately, these are n...

Re: Hose lengths- head to holding tank, macerator to overboard seacock
Thanks Rafe! My system (2006) had 10' of the 1.5" diameter hose (tank to diverter, diverter to pump out, diverter to diaphragm pump) and 22' of 1" hose (toilet to holding tank and diaphragm pump to thru hull). So the total length still matched your 32'. I used the Raritan Saniflex from Def...

Hose lengths- head to holding tank, macerator to overboard seacock
Does anyone know the lengths of hose needed for the 1" sanitation hose 1) From the head to the holding tank and 2) From the macerator to the overboard seacock Just looking to order the hose and I'm not at the boat. It looked a little tricky to measure due to the looping/curves. This is a 2006 b...

Re: impeller removal
I found a cheap installation/removal tool for the 129670-42531 impeller. It's a 3/4" diameter standard thread bolt. While it doesn't thread fully, it engages just enough into the threads to easily wiggle the old impeller out and press the new one in. A couple bucks at the Home Depot! IMG_3024.j...

Re: Removing and installing shafts
Follow-up: Pulling the shafts was pretty easy- pull the propeller, then disconnect the shaft at the coupler. Next, remove the coupler to shaft bolt/pin and then gently tap the coupling off of the shaft (tapping in the fwd direction). To install you can just use a flat metal plate and butt that again...

Re: PSS Seal Size or Part Number
Late follow-up: I used the PSS seal 02-114-214 from Citimarine and it fit very well on hull #102. Our log outer diameter was 2.25". They work very well, I believe there is a small mist during operation for lubrication but the bilges remain dry and a very small amount of salt is deposited locall...

Removing and installing shafts
What is the proper way to remove and re-install the shafts? I am switching to PSS seals and will need to remove the shafts to switch to the new seals. I was able to easily remove the props by using two c-clamps and I had a thick aluminum disk that fit on the shaft perfectly to pull against... one sm...

Bottom paint above water line...
Our bottom paint extends about 4" above the waterline. The previous bottom job used hard bottom paint, and since that portion of the paint is not always exposed to water it developed lines or striations/cracking of the paint that isn't constantly submerged. The paint was applied thick and basic...

Re: PSS Seal Size or Part Number
I appreciate everyone's quick replies! Duetto- I am switching because the Tides are leaking at higher rpms, something we found on the survey with Ed Rowe. Chester White had also recommended going to PSS. The PSS seals are a pre-loaded face seal, so it would seem it would be a superior seal to the ti...

PSS Seal Size or Part Number
Hi fellow PDQ'ers, I have the boat hauled for a bottom job and I am looking to switch from Tides to PSS seals. Does anyone have the dimensions or part number for the PSS seal to fit a 2006 MV 34? Any installation tips? Also, can anyone verify that the correct cutlass bearing is the "BITE" ...

Re: Bottom Paint
A lot of good advice above, I really appreciate it!
I hadn't thought about the running gear/prop protection. Do most people use the cold galvanizing paint? What prep is needed?
From what I have read, using bottom paint with copper is not recommended for the bronze components.
Thanks!
Doug

How many gallons of bottom paint will I need for two coats on the PDQ MV 34? Boat will be in Florida primarily and I plan to use Trinidad SR.. unless there are better suggestions from this forum!
Thanks,
Doug

Re: Sail slides- where to buy?
Thanks again Drew. I found the slug at Sailrite:
Nylon Internal Flat Slide 7/8"
The 7/8" measurement is the width of the slide since its a flat slide.
Thanks,
Doug
