It seems to me that the best option is to buy a 4-quad, "unlocked" GSM phone (you might already have one if you’re with T-Mobile or Cingular) and buy a multi-country SIM card which will give you a European phone number, free incoming calls and outgoing international calls for an average of...

Navigation

Dan Dickerson from Weems & Plath has compiled a very informative binder that includes available charts, cruising guides, navigation chips (by various companies), “LIGHTrules” and “ROADrules” navigational aids (European canal system, Baltic and Europe in general), and a Tide Chart Book Set. This ...

Spare Parts

While there are marine stores in many of the marinas we’ll be traveling in – it is best to travel with a full spare parts kit that includes oil, fuel and water filters and fluids (oil, transmission). It is would also be useful to keep some spare light bulbs and fuses for your boat. The Rhumb Line bo...

Passarelles

Much of the time we will be docked either stern-to or bow-to. Depending on the height of the wall – getting on and off the boat could at times be challenging. The best way to get around this type of “European mooring” is with the use of a passarelle, or gangway. Carol Tuschick has located a company ...

Water Hoses

The PDQ standard hose fitting is too large for European faucets. The hoses in Europe come with several fittings to adapt accordingly to the country they are used in. These can be purchased upon arrival in Europe.

Propane

The best advice is to make sure you have both your propane tanks filled before leaving the US. In the event you need to fill your tanks while in Europe, you will need an adapter. More research on rigging an adapter will have to be made – any suggestions?

From 220/240 volts (50 Hz) to 110/120 volts (60 Hz)

An inexpensive way to adapt your PDQ for 220/240 volts is with the VOD 5000 Step Down Transformer . You will also need an extension cord and possibly an adapter or plug end to connect the transformer to the power pole on the dock once in Europe. The European plug has two circular plugs. We can buy t...
