Re: PDQ Engine Mounts for 75hp Yanmars

i believe mastry marine in fl market a set of mounts to eliminate the water pump interference problem that ron mentioned. they were pricey though.

Re: Engine alternators not charging house batteries

years ago i spoke to xantrex support and they said the VB connection doesn't matter. i think that the combiner works like this. when it senses a voltage above 13.2 (thru the small sense wires) it closes ALL solenoids. assuming that the voltage across all 3 banks can be maintained above 13.1 charging...

Re: Ground tackle?

hi john,

it's not a typo. it is std equipment with our mainship 34 pilot which we just got. i agree it is marginal and we'll be reviewing at the end of the season. problem is to upsize chain & rode you need to upsize the windlass.

Re: Ground tackle?

hi eric, we have a steel spade 100 and a rocna 45# albeit on different boats. we've used spade for 5 years anchoring from new england, icw, and bahamas. we never have had a problem in hundreds of days of anchoring. it has 40' of 5/16" chain and nylon rode. we bought another boat in new england ...

hi james,

we have hull 23 and have no plate. by chance does/did your boat have SSB? i believe they use a grounding system like that.

Re: Why PDQ?

hi, we faced the exact same decision 6 years ago. we found a 2003 pdq 34 and a 2003 endvr 36. same engine hours, same price, same condition. we chose the pdq for the following reasons: 1) i got off the endvr and told my wife, " i guess i can learn to love it, but boy is it butt ugly ". 2) ...

hi maureen,

i've made one out of two by swapping solenoids. it's easy. not sure where you'd source solenoids.

Re: Engine alternators not charging house batteries

we had the exact same situation when we first got our boat. boat came with 100A combiner. it has 2 solenoids. problem was that the sense wires on combiner were turning the green light on but the solenoid contacts on the house bank were burnt and not passing current. you can test if this is your prob...

Re: New Hot Water Heater

roger, i personally have never undone the fresh water in and out, but aren't they just whale 1/2"(?) hard tube fittings? they should just unscrew. the engine heater in and out are just hose barbs. i believe any water heater will work. it will just be lining up the hard tubing with the in/out on...

Re: New Hot Water Heater

roger/mary, are you asking whether the water lines can be removed or if the heating tank and cover can be separated? assuming your boat has the force 10 water heater, we had the very same problem 5 years ago. we replaced it with an isotemp. i didn't do this, we had it done. so yes, it does come apar...

hi ross,

i'd target the paint where the boat sits. you'll get virtually no growth when boat is moving or sitting for short periods.

Re: Dripless shaft seals

hi sandy, duetto came with the blue seals. they failed on our first trip north. we replaced with the red ones which failed exactly one year later on trip north. at that point we found the problem to be a bent prop shaft. new set of red ones have been in 4 years or approx 20,000 miles. i asked tides ...
