Re: Sailing without a motor

To add a little more to Page 83's post: - We have left the mooring ball often without an engine. Its easy to put the main up then unfurl the Genny once moving - The PDQ is SO much easier to put up the main from drifting than most mono-hulls as it does sail backward quite well. (And I have drifted ba...

Re: Holding Tank Odor and Filters

I don't have any secret formulas, but have used vinegar. I also heard someone uses Epson salts to bring the salt level in the holding tank to a toxic level. Never tried it myself though. Let me know if you need assistance. I'm on the hard at Herrington (row J).

Re: Annapolis Area PDQ Winter Sailing Get-Together

I'd be up for a sail one day, or even a meal at Happy Harbor - just over the bridge, or lunch in Pentagon City one day as an option. We are moving to Annapolis over the next 10 days and then flying to BVI until the 15th of March for a sailing charter. Anytime after that is good by me.

Re: Anybody home?

We're trying to stay warm here. Desert Star is shrink wrapped and we are two weeks from being full-time Annapolis residents. The new house leaks more than the boat... In March we are treating ourselves to a Charter in BVI for a week. James is coming in the Spring to fix the steering. I need to get w...

Re: BERMUDA

I've done the trip a couple times, in mono-hulls, and loved it. But we always took 4 or 6 crew to cover an easier watch schedule. My oldest did it with me when he was 16 and it was quite a test for him. We ate tuna and Mahi both ways. He gave much of his back to Neptune the first two days...

Re: Dinghy survey

Mike; If you look at the attachment points at the top of the davits on Desert Star, you can see that they moved them aft of the frame to get the dingy farther out and more space. Perhaps you can get a welder to do that on yours (?) BTW - Joey and Christine on Bright Eyes (http://svbrighteyes.blogspo...

Re: Dinghy survey

To provide another view of weight. I have an Avon RIB at 140lbs + 8hp Merc at 76 lbs and have many times stood in the boat on the davits, as well as use it for gear storage when underway. It also sat full of water once. I am not sure what the construction of mine is, vs what you are looking at. Just...

Re: PDQ Work Tour 2011

Hi Gary; Just to comment on your water tight compartments - I have hull 49 and had the same problem. James fixed/resealed the inspection ports and I ensured that the drains in the gutters around the hatches remained cleared, and the problem was mostly solved. I went from a few gallons of water a se...

Dear Angelia; Our deepest sympathies. We followed the Caringbridge Blogs you posted. Thank you for sharing all the happened. If you are ever in Annapolis, please give us a ring. The house is usually only 50% rented. If we can assist with the boat, let us know. I will ask around. All the best, Bonnie...

Re: Sailmaker Recommendations 2010

I purchased new sails last spring from Niel Pryde. The Rep in Annapolis was quite knowledgeable and the sails are very well made. I can send you his info and what I paid if you'd like.
