Re: Shrink wrap vs Custom Tarp
In Herrington Harbour North its $20 a foot to shrink wrap the entire boat ($720.00 for a PDQ36). We decided to go with semi-custom tarps from http://www.tarpsonline.com/white.asp. That way it looks okay and we save a few hundred to pay for future projects or waxing in the Spring.

They were $150 more and needed me to measure it myself. The local service made this one better if if was a bit more - rather than less...

New Sails for our PDQ 36
I am about to purchase new sails for our PDQ 36. I had the original main fixed - which I blew out a year ago, but its not in the best shape. I have a 100% jib, but miss the extra power with a Genoa. So far I have gotten 5 quotes in the Annapolis area. I started with a main for $3600 and a Geona for ...

Re: Wall oven in life jacket locker
I do have outboards. The back of the oven has a 1/2" pipe vent to exhaust heat from within the oven shell. I put a 1/2" elbow on it to redirect it from pointing straight back. The oven gets hot, but not to a level that might even harm the fiberglass, let alone heat through to the Raycore f...

Wall oven in life jacket locker
Last Spring I installed a wall convection oven the life jacket locker. After home made biscuits, cookies, and lots of baked goods, it passed the test of time. So I thought I'd post the information. Copy of 102_6026.JPG The locker front can be cut to a maximum of 19.25" x 19.25". Which we n...

Re: Series drogue attachment?
I always differ to Jame or sandy on PDQ specific points, especially something like a stress point on Fiberglass. But my gut feeling is that second winches and such are not needed in the drogue equation, and that the stern cleats are ideal. Simple and cheap is the way to go. If you are putting in a s...

Re: Series drogue attachment?
Well Drogues are not quite as an emotional topic as anchoring. But I bet you will get a lot of postings. My experience with them and warps in general go back to the 1970s. So all this is just my opinion... I prefer a warp (long line) over a drogue for the simple reason that they are expendable (caus...

Re: coach roof rings
They are a convenient place for a halyard. They look like a place to connect a running backstay, but as the boat's don't have fractional rigs, there is no need. It could also just be a good use of the backing plate for the coach roof supports. Perhaps James or Sandy knows...

Mine are not permanent. I have pondered shackles to the hull or such, but flexibility has always proven itself... .. and saved money.

Re: Ground tackle?
Hi Mike; I use a bridle with a stainless steel thimble at the apex. I tie about 6' of line to the thimble, and then use that to tie the rolling hitch. The bridle then forms a "Y" shape and both sides of the bridle take the stain off of the anchor line. I can use it for the chain or rope se...

Re: Ground tackle?
Chain hook ideas like Drew's are good. My anchor line is a combination of chain and three strand line. I don't have a chain hook, but rather tie a Rolling Hitch from the bridle to the anchor line. Its not hard once you get used to it. I use it only because I had the experience many years ago of havi...

Re: 34 Owners List?
One universally accepted method for posting names is limiting non-public data. Most yacht clubs here list boat name, owner, hailing port and model that is identical to USCG documentation. Then they add only contact information already posted by the owner - such as their Blog, facebook, or other alre...

Re: Positive Flotation Secret Compartments
We get water (but no diamonds) in 4 of the 6 compartments (not in the ones on the front of the bridge deck). James worked on the seals in the inspection ports and it greatly reduced the water - which means some simply leaked in through the inspection ports. But they still get some water. I have yet ...
